Need for Speed: Most Wanted officially announced, made by Criterion

EA dropped us a line this morning to confirm the recent speculation that they are currently working on a new Need for Speed title to be revealed at E3.

As most of us had already guessed, it's Need for Speed: Most Wanted, and it will be coming from the industry's most legendary arcade racing developer, Criterion. You may remember Criterion from their previous efforts in the genre: Burnout 3, Burnout Paradise, and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. Also known as the #1, #2, and #3 best arcade racers ever made.

Beyond these tiny details, we currently know nothing, but we're borderline positive that EA will be giving us all more information on the new title at their press conference on Monday, June 4 at 1pm PST.

The image you see above it the only screenshot EA has released for the new title, though we'll doubtlessly see dozens more soon enough.

O ye humble and generous gods at Criterion, we beseech thee to bestoweth upon us thine holy light of arcade racing greatness forevermore. Amen. ... Man, I loved Most Wanted to death. I loved Hot Pursuit to death as well. Gee, I've probably died from so much love for games so many times that whenever I visit heaven Jesus asks me for an update on what great games he should be playing from down below before he sends me back. Jesus is a pretty religious (see what I did there?) gamer himself, but he's made me take a vow to secrecy on what his Gamertag, PSN ID, and Steam username are. You wouldn't want that info anyway. He never cheats (obviously), but too often he has help from his Dad. And that, I've heard, is the best help there is. :P

    Pseudo-Hot Pursuit follow-up? Hell yes, I'm in.

The original Most Wanted was an amazing game. I have faith in Criterion to deliver a version that's at least as good.

Don't know of a game I've not liked from Criterion yet! Love the Burnout Franchise and love the Need for Speed games in most cases and Hot Pursuit was easily one of the best racers out so I look forward to seeing what they do with Most Wanted!

Apparently there is a dimemsion where Midnight Club 3 isn't in the top 3....DAMN YOU HAWKING!!!.....but seriously, dub edition is the best arcade racing game ever.

Burnout 3: Easily the 2nd best arcade racer ever made (Flatout: Ultimate Carnage is the best) Burnout Revenge: More of what made #3 great but with and ugly and bleak style Burnout Paradise: A HORRID Burnout game but a WELL above average arcade racer NFS HP: Decent enough. Not spectacular but FAR from bad. Even above average NFS games that have come out since BO Paradise: NFS: Undercover NFS: Shift NFS: Nitro NFS: Nitro-X NFS: World NFS: Hot Pursuit Shift 2 Unleased NFS: The Run Where the heck is Burnout 6?!?

While Burnout are not bad games, uh.. what? Hot Pursuit was a disaster and absolutely terrible. Why the EA butt kissing?
  • DrSmyslov - June 1, 2012 10:48 a.m.

I love Hot Pursuit. OTT speed whilst still having great handling, cops and racers distinction works well, as does the online side. It's just a really fun game - no idea why you think it's a disaster?

You're in the minority there, I'm not sure what you disliked about Hot Pursuit, but most people thought it was fantastic.
