Mortal Kombat: Extended God of War trailer and Kollector’s edition details

God of War’s Kratos was confirmed as a playable character for the PlayStation 3 version of the new Mortal Kombat game this weekend on Spike’s VGA awards show. Following that announcement, we have an extended version of the Kratos debut trailer, which features some extra fighting footage.

Details for various special editions and pre-order bonuses have also been announced. The Kollector’s Edition will include Sub-Zero and Scorpion figurines, an art book, and downloadable content, which will include Mortal Kombat Klassic costume skins and avatars.

The Tournament Edition will also include Mortal Kombat Klassic costume skins and avatars. But it will also come packed with a portable fight stick. Only 20,000 copies of the Tournament Edition will be available in North America, making it a bit of a collector’s item.

Warner Bros. and NetherRealm are also going all out when it comes to pre-order bonuses for the new Mortal Kombat game, with different ‘Klassic’ costume skims and Fatalities offered depending on which retailer you get the game from.

Pre-order Mortal Kombat from GameStop, and you’ll get the Klassic Scorpion costume and fatality. Best Buy customer will get the Klassic Sub-Zero costume and fatality, while customers get the Klassic costume and fatality for Reptile.

Mortal Kombat will be launching on April 11, 2011 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

TO EVERYONE WHO THINKS MARCUS FENIX WILL BE IN MORTAL KOMBAT '11: it seems highly unlikely that Marcus Fenix will be in Mortal Kombat '11 because, think about it: Kratos is from a Hack 'n' Slash, Marcus is from a Shooter. Kratos is from a little after the Elder Gods left this mortal plane of existence, Marcus is from 2150 or something. It's like putting Gordon Freeman in a dating sim, or Faith from Mirror's Edge in a Facebook game reminiscent of Mafia Wars. I mean, sure, if they modeled Marcus after Stryker... BUT THAT'S NOT HAPPENING. See, a little while back, Boon or Tobias, I forget which, said that they wouldn't model one character after another. They wanted to break from the mold of one character modeled after another from previous games. Also, Marcus's only moves would be jab, kick, curb stomp, lancer. He'd be like an unimaginative version of Jax. I'm sick of this. People: STFU.

    That's what's up...

... Well, that was anti-climactic... Especially given Kratos' rather amusing entrance >.>

exclusive or even (paid) downloadable fatalities.. thats the worse idea to implement here.. really, fuck this

WHAT?! THAT'S IT?! (AGAIN?!) I thought extended meant more of Kratos but apparently it was more of Scorpion and Sub-Zero... still a treat though... hopefully they release another one soon with more Kratos this time... ICEBoX812 - I'm with you there, was wondering why Scorpion didn't get knocked down after he was stabbed with an ice shard...

Did anyone else notice how sub-zero totally won? Scorpion got stabbed somewhere near a hyperbolic billion times. In addition, I hate store exclusive DLC, because I'm OCD when it comes to my favorite video games.

I'll be getting the Kollectors Edition if I can afford it. I hope it's only £10 more expensive. But yeah, I looked at Ed Boon's Twitter last night and he mentioned Gears a lot, along with a picture of him and CliffyB, so that MIGHT confirm that Marcus Fenix is in the 360 version. Anyway, I hope that MK9 turns out to be as good as it looks, because it looks amazing.

Ummmmm... I was kind of expecting more fighting between Kratos and Scorpion. Cool Sub-Zero is, no pun intended, I wanna see Kratos' Blades in action.

wonder how much a game wants to grub for money? Just count the number of "special" editions it has.
  • Channel4 - December 13, 2010 7:53 p.m.

Hmm... Kratos actually has worse graphics in this CGI than he does in GOWIII. Anyway, this isn't quite as cool as having Link in SCII. I hope they put Mracus Fenix in the 360 version and then do what what happened with SCIV and give the other consoles exclusive as DLC. Then we could pit Kratos vs Marcus, fighting to for the right to have their respective games initials as GOW.

Any news on how much each package will cost? I'd love to get the tournament edition, but if it's more than $100, I would have to rethink it.
