Modern Warfare 2 glitch lets you download free XBLA games right the hell now

Hey, you. Yeah, you. Do you like free stuff? Well this my friend is a deliriously happy day, because a glitch in both the single-player demo and full version of Modern Warfare 2 on 360 currently lets you download a select few full Arcade games for free. So if you want a gratis copy of The King of Fighters ‘98 Ultimate Match, Metal Slug 3 or Samurai Showdown II, read below…

First you’ll want to download a trial version of the XBLA game you want. Bizarrely this glitch only works with SNK games, so you’re limited to The King of Fighters ’98 Ultimate Match, Metal Slug 3, Metal Slug XX, Garou: Mark of the Wolves and Showdown II. Alright, so they’re not exactly Braid or Limbo. But c’mon, free shit!

Above: This could soon be yours for the princely sum of shit all

Next, launch either the full version of MW2 or the demo. Once the game has booted up, press the guide button and choose Quick Launch. Now all you have to do is select any of the SNK trials you’ve downloaded and Infinity Ward’s moustache-intensive shooter will trick your 360 into thinking you’ve bought the full version. As soon as you enter one of these titles you’ll have the entire game at your disposal. The only downside is you’ll have to follow this process every time you want to play them.

If you want to want to get in at the ground floor of the free XBLA Ritz you better act fast. Microsoft and Infinity Ward are no doubt working on a patch to fix this embarrassing glitch as we type these illicit words.

Even if Microsoft has put the kibosh on this glitch by the time you’re reading this, it’s still a pretty embarrassing, and no doubt costly, error. Let us know in the comments below if you’ve taken advantage of this most generous of f*ck ups.

Oh, and thanks to vg247 and Worthplaying for the heads up.

Just know that if you do this, Captain Price will forever judge you...

Can you really look that moustache in the face knowing what you've done?

@ObliqueZombie You need to read good grammer to know that society still has hope? The internet is the wrong place to be looking let me tell you that, maybe buy a book or something, there is plenty of good grammer to be had. The internet? erm nope. 2cm is 2cm my friend.

Taking advantage of a glitch that offers things normally costing money, for free--Usually a bannable offense on anything with common sense. And you guys are promoting it? Hmmmmn.......

Grammar folks on GR forums? Hilarious. Two comments: 1.) Is Microsoft plural (rhetorical question)? If it isn't, then both the posters credited by the grammar police had an obvious error in their post. 2.) I love when grammar police fail and misspell grammar. I now also enjoy when people who make critical comments about grammar police misspell grammar.

Feh.. I point out it's risky in the first post, and some "first" spammer insults me. Nice..

@notthatgoodthanks I for, one, need good grammar to reassure that society still has hope. And, as a writer, it's a bit hard to read something someone says seriously if they're too lazy to move their finger an extra 2 cm to press a key. At any rate, I'm kinda with Thumkus on this one. It seems unprofessional to even announce this. I mean, to announce it to make fun of Infinity Ward and Microsoft if great an all, but telling how to do it? Ah well, the smart people won't risk getting banned, and the ones willing to try it obviously don't care about playing online.
  • Cwf2008 - August 11, 2010 8:38 p.m. not gonna risk getting banned for something like this.
  • Doctalen - August 11, 2010 7:07 p.m.

    Free shit games. Huzah!!!!

@TheWebSwinger: Because it's a dreadful excuse for a machine, let alone a top-of-the-range (hehe) games console. Or it could be that the manufacturers of said machine are money-grabbing rich bastards who support other money-grabbing rich bastards to take your hard-earned cash to continue this scheme. Or it could be the fact that the majority of the online community of said machine are foul-mouthed, disgraceful excuses for human beings who probably have a well-below-average IQ and couldn't contribute anything worth mentioning to a conversation, unless it was a conversation about ill-mannered conversations with illegible grammar and idiotic, often Hitler-based outcomes. You getting the point here?
  • Crabhand - August 11, 2010 6:50 p.m.

This is pretty humorous. I don't care enough about SNK games to bother toying with this, but it does bring some lulz for the Microsoft/Infinity Ward fail (whoever is truly to blame).
  • TheWebSwinger - August 11, 2010 6:36 p.m.

Why WHY DID I SELL MY 360.
  • CAPST3R - August 11, 2010 6:25 p.m.

Yet another fuck-up by Microsoft and Infinity Ward. Let's add this to the list under- oh dear, it seems we've run out of space.

This is incredibly unethical. Nice work crediting the story to GamesRadar UK rather than an individual writer and for selling out the other publications that provided you with the info. It's sad that you people get paid to do this job while so many of us struggle to get noticed in the industry. If only we were as talentless and immoral as you guys, we might make it in this field.
  • Glyphs - August 11, 2010 5:54 p.m.

I just got 100g off of Metal Slug XX and I feel really, really, dirty. But hey, all of a sudden I have a small reason, but a reason at that, to play Modern Warfare 2.
  • onewingedantista - August 11, 2010 5:31 p.m.

@Thumkus: It's GamesRadar! We're not respectable! BTW, that pic of Price is teh roxxors!
  • Thumkus - August 11, 2010 5:13 p.m.

I can't believe that any respectable news outlet would encourage this behavior. This is highly unprofessional.
  • SwampRock - August 11, 2010 4:32 p.m.

I doubt there will be bans, considering you don't actually get to keep the game, you just get to play it as though you do. So if there are bans I'd imagine they would be temporary.
  • oryandymackie - August 11, 2010 4:28 p.m.

Hurrah! Modern Warfare 2 proves its worth!
  • Bloodstorm - August 11, 2010 4:05 p.m.

I want to know how someone figured this out. Who was playing modern warfare and then switched to one of these trial games using quick launch? I'm surprised Gamesradar is encouraging this. I mean, there is a high likely hood this is going to result in bans.
