Minecraft sells 3 million on Xbox Live Arcade

Despite being out for (technically) more than three years, the phenomenon that is Minecraft continues its relentless rampage across every platform imaginable. Today news came out that the game has sold a mammoth three million copies on Xbox Live Arcade, the latest platform it release on.

"I got told Minecraft for XBLA passed three million sales today!" tweeted Markus "Notch" Persson today, confirming the news. When will this reign of terror end? We're honestly not sure. This is at least the fourth time they've gone platinum on a new platform, and it's not over yet. 

Seek shelter if this game ever comes out on Facebook. At this point we're wondering if Minecraft will ever go away, or if it's truly the LEGO of the new generation.

    I never played the PC version and my friend convinced me to put down the $20 on the Xbox version. I then proceeded to play it for 15 hours straight! Most time I think I've ever sank into one sitting of a game.

    The PC version is 100 times better, texture packs, bigger play area, and more content (until they update the Xbox version). I honestly hope they make a bigger and better sequel that doesn't use Java and has better graphics.

    and people say the pc is always better but obviously not! look at how many people were able to play minrcraft finally. the xbox 360 is a perfect way to get the game to lots of gamers so i dont want to hear any more from the people who yell "PC IS BETTER" try thinking firt.

    lol this time the PC version actually is better. I got the game on Xbox first, played it a while, but then got convinced to get the game for PC, and it is SO MUCH BETTER. I can't even play the 360 version anymore, it's so terrible.

    I am not trying to create an argument or anything here, but in this case you are wrong. I own an Xbox and love it to bits but the pc version of Minecraft is simply better and here's why: 1. the xbox version is an older version of the pc version ( that's a lot of versions ) 2. the pc version is open to being modded, some of the most fun I have had with minecraft is with mods such as tekkit and 3. the controls for pc are much more fluid it feels more natural to navigate that inventory system with a mouse rather than an anologue stick.

    I have read and understood your comment. Yes XBLA is a good way to get the game to lots of new gamers but the PC version is most certainly the better version due to the reason mentioned in the posts above

    Not really because modding ruins the game and the pc takes longer to boot up then the xbox and there is less lag.

    moderations break the game and the later versions of minecraft arent good. trust me i know my stuff about minecraft been playing it since in development

    "Been playing it since in development." Ha, that doesn't say anything, it was in development like 5 months ago. You are an expert because you played in the last five months? I watched the news this morning, I am not an expert in journalism. Modding doesn't ruin the game either, it expands it. Case and point, ArmA II is selling dickloads copies because of the DayZ mod that makes the game ridiculously fun. The newer versions of Minecraft have a ton of new items, tell me how that is bad. If you don't like the new items and the actual ending, don't play with them. Silly fucking Xbox fanboy. If you have the means of gaming on PC, it is monumentally better, get over it.

    "Modding ruins the game." Modding is encouraged by Notch himself (partially because he's too lazy to do stuff himself anymore) and allows much more to be done with the game. The PC version takes slightly longer to boot up on a crappy PC, and if you have lag then you're computer/internet connection is too slow. While nobody is denying that the Xbox version is fun, the PC version is vastly superior, and if you don't understand this then you shouldn't PC game at all. Is TF2 worse on PC because Valve's able to update it more than the Xbox version? Though I must say, if I wanted Minecraft for Xbox, I'd've paid $3 for Total Miner not five times that for Minecraft, since that game is the closest Minecraft clone that exists (in some ways it's farther along than Xbox Minecraft).

    calm down kid. in development meaning indev meaning before alpha or is logic not your strong point? and yes moderations ruin the overall gaming experience. i dont think you understand about good games and how to play them properly.

    This has been really bothering me. They are modifications, not fucking moderations. JTFC And PC has reached just shy of 7 million players (info from Minecraft.net) while XBLA is only 3 million. I am willing to bet that a fair portion, say 3/4 of those XBLA purchasers already had it on their PC/Mac. Mods enhance the game, and as they are not mandatory, or even needed, then they cannot "ruin" the game experience. A voluntary experience cannot ruin something. Volunteering to get shot, and then saying it ruined your day is pretty damn dumb, right? So, unless it is forced upon you, then it doesn't really ruin anything.
