Sandfall Interactive's debut game, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, has sold upwards of eight million copies in only its first year of release, the developer has announced.
Just a few hours after releasing a stealth Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 patch to celebrate the game's first anniversary, the studio jumped online to mark another major milestone.
"We're so thrilled, and honestly still quite overwhelmed, to announce that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has officially reached 8 MILLION copies sold," Sandfall tweets. "Thank you so so much to every single person who has played, created art, shared, streamed, discussed, and supported this game!!"
Last time Sandfall updated the game's sales numbers, Clair Obscur had moved a still really impressive five million units as of last October. In that time, the acclaimed RPG swept up awards at nearly every turn and became only the second game ever to win GOTY at all five major ceremonies, after Baldur's Gate 3, of course. All those shiny trophies and loud buzz probably fueled Clair Obscur to sell a further three million during its historic awards run.
To put those numbers into context, Clair Obscur is now not that far off sales-wise from the beloved games that inspired it. Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal have sold a combined 10 million copies, for example, meanwhile, the original Final Fantasy 7 has sold just over 15 million units in the three decades since it became a genre staple.
Today's surprise update brought with it fancy new haircuts for the French RPG's cast, alongside a few welcome bug fixes and a heartwarming piece of concept art.
