Michelle Gomez Back For Doctor Who Series 9

Thought we’d seen the last of Missy? Think again! The Beeb has confirmed that Michelle Gomez will return for series nine of Doctor Who. She’ll appear in the first episode of the series, “The Magician’s Apprentice”, alongside Peter Capladi and Jenna Coleman.

“Things have been a little beige since I left Missy behind, so I'm delighted to be putting my Lippie back on. I'm positively dying to see the Doctor again!” Said Gomez, who’s currently filming the new series in Cardiff.

Gomez also recorded a special video message on set to announce her return. Remember – an apple a day keeps the Doctor away.

Steven Moffat added: “Everybody hide – Michelle Gomez as Missy was an instant hit last year, so she’s straight back to plague the Doctor and Clara in the series opener. But what brings her back into their lives is the last thing they’d expect.”

As the first episode in the opening two-parter “The Magician’s Apprentice” will be followed by “The Witch’s Familiar”, written by Moffat and helmed by “Blink” director Hettie Macdonald. Especially interesting is the news that Clare Higgins will guest star in the opening episode. You may remember Higgins as Ohica in “The Brain Of Morbius” or, more recently, as Ohila in ace Eighth Doctor short “The Night Of The Doctor”. Could the Sisterhood Of Karn have a part to play in the opening episodes?

Also confirmed: Jemma Redgrave’s Kate Stewart will be back for series nine (which makes you wonder where the recently-announced UNIT: Extinction audio dramas from Big Finish will fit in) alongside Kelly Hunter, who also has Doctor Who history having appeared as the Shadow Architect in “The Stolen Earth”.

Doctor Who returns to BBC One this Autumn.
