Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes gets extended gameplay clip, featuring vehicle-play and exploding heads

Kojima Productions' beautiful next-gen Fox Engine gets a better real-time showing off

So last week the lengthy, beautiful, and oh so very shiny trailer for Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes was released. It was a gorgeous 10-minute spectacle, but alas it teasingly cut to black just after the gameplay part started. Now though, an extended demo video has arrived, running on a few minutes after the main trailer cuts out, and featuring sneaking, shooting driving and helicoptering.

The new footage shows Snake making his way into the sprawling open-world military base below, dealing with the tower guard who gave him so much trouble in the trailer, and then briefly showing off his new vehicle-based prowess both on the ground and in the air.It also gives a hint of the full scale and openness of the level in play via a quick look at the in-game map.

Any more excited about Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes now? Or still requiring of a bit more solid detail before launching into full "Cannot wait" mode?

This game looks cool. I just got a M4 like in the game http://www.airsplat.com/airsoft-video-games.htm and they have a bunch of other guns from different games.

I was in "full cannot wait mode" the minute this game was announced. I love the MGS series, and I'm always ready for more.

    Hot damn that was pretty.

Never been a big fan of the series, but this does look fantastic!

This is starting to look pretty amazing. And, to say it was only announced last week, it looks like there's a fair amount of it already finished. Does that mean we might even get a 2012/early 2013 release? AND, does it mean that all the things they're saying- huge, open worlds and even different countries- we might actually get, because they've already managed to do it? Admittedly, that might be me being a little too optimistic, but still. It'd be good.

Late 2012/2013, colliding with MG:R? You can forget about it. But I do think it looks like an Autumn release next year, although, that's bound to be congested as fuck as usual.

Pretty sure the game isn't coming out before 2014, if even then. It does look like they have been working on it for quite a while, yes, but considering MGS's history with announcements vs when they actually come out, they almost always take at least 2-3 years. I don't see this being an exception.

But, if this is to serve as prologue to MGS5, I don't think they can afford to launch MGS5 any later than 2015. I'm thinking a Summer/Fall 2013 release for this title - just before the next-gen launch window begins in earnest.

It's unlikely to be out any later than 2014. The next gen of consoles will almost definitely be out by then. I doubt the graphics on the PS 3 will be as good as those seen here either. I think that was PC footage that was shown.

Why not? both MGS2 and MGS4 where announced and planned for the next consoles just as the former console cycles were coming to an end. I would be willing to bet that whatever plans are for MGS5, it's most certainly coming for the next generation of consoles.

Well, according to Kojima and the developers, the footage shown DOES come from a PS3. Of course, they could always be bullshitting us, but in the case of Kojima, and particularly how he has been playing up his FOX engine for the last 2 years,(That, and that he has always had a preference for Sony consoles over anything else.) I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Holiday 2013, at the earliest. Still looks gorgeous.

So who else is changing their song for when the helicopter comes in Guile's Theme?
  • BladedFalcon - September 3, 2012 7:32 a.m.

...That is brilliant. Count me in!
  • sternparez - September 3, 2012 12:03 p.m.

    lol awww yeeeaah

Does look bloody nice. I never really got into the series after the first one. This one's giving me the twinge to power through the HD collection to get up to speed.
  • AbleAmazing - September 3, 2012 9:36 a.m.

Agreed. I just downloaded the Collection and Solid 1 on PS Store. Gonna start from the beginning and power through to the end of MGS4.
