Mass Effect 3 briefly listed on EA Store

"Earth is burning," reads a Mass Effect 3 pre-order listing which, according to Joystiq, appeared on the EA Store earlier today. The leak has since been removed, but it apparently listed Xbox 360, PS3, and PC versions of the trilogy's conclusion, as well as a brief description:

"Earth is burning. Striking from beyond known space, a race of terrifying machines have begun their destruction of the human race. As Commander Shepard, an Alliance Marine, your only hope for saving mankind is to rally the civilizations of the galaxy and launch one final mission to take back the Earth."

EA's listing now reads "TBD," but Joystiq, of course, hit print screen:

The generic description copy doesn't reveal much about the title, except that it apparently exists. BioWare has teased a new game announcement which will occur tomorrow during the Video Game Awards on Spike, and we've been drenched in speculation for the past couple weeks. This seems to confirm that the announcement is indeed Mass Effect 3... though it may not be entirely what you expect.

Recently, EA Games chief Frank Gibeau implied that EA and its studios will no longer focus on purely single-player experiences, so BioWare's epic series conclusion may involve online components, though we don't imagine it would stray far from the pre-tested Mass Effect formula, if at all. It's all speculation for now.

If you miss the parade of donkeys - sorry, the VGAs - tomorrow, we'll be covering all the big announcements, so stay tuned! Here's BioWare's teaser, if you missed it:

If they're going to add MP, they should take a page from the Modern Warfare 2 book and add a wholly separate Spec Ops mode.

Wow! Reading all the posts here it seems like most ME fans are either against multiplayer or dont even care for it!.....Im confused why would they bother wasting time on it then?

I always knew from the start from the little commercial that ME 3 was biowares new game

It wouldn't make for a very surprising announcement if it was just Mass Effect 3. We already knew it was coming and I find it unlikely they would tease us like this for something we know about. If we connect imaginary dots we can speculate about multiplayer being announced for Mass Effect 3 (which would be very lame if it were the announcement as none of the clues point to that). I'm still hoping it's a spinoff game of the first contact war like others have speculated, or an entirely new IP with the Incisor being a red herring.

Oh please please please be Mass Effect 3. I sincerely hope they don't add some big weird multiplayer aspect to it though. Co-op, maybe. Multiplayer.. no.

Shepard? What Shepard? My Shepard is dead.
  • Doctalen - December 11, 2010 2:30 a.m.

Come on Bioware, don't tease me like that.

Just can't wait. Can't imagine multiplayer being anything more than deathmatch arenas or something. Only thing im a little unsure of is playing through another story that is you "racing against the clock" to stop the reapers. Although I loved the first game, I prefered ME2s take your time do what you want approach. I'd be less inclined to explore if the story was "earth is being destroyed right NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Also the description may be a clue as to how the ME2 characters will feature in ME3. Not much basically, go talk to Garrus (or generic turian) to get the turians on board etc. Hope im wrong though

This news made my day. Now I really want to play through ME2 again, but my copy is gone. *cries in a corner*

F**k yes, sequel to GOTY of the year and one of the best games ever! This sounds like a great story, the Reapers have attacked Earth and Shepard must gather up all his allies from the first two games and save the galaxy! Can't wait until tomorrow night, the VGA's are the best!!!!! Just please don't add multiplayer, or at least not as part of the main story!

mikeydo00: Won't happen, Microsoft owns the publishing rights to the first Mass Effect, that's why PS3 owner's get an interactive comic book instead of the first game. This is way too early. Especially if they are developing for 3 consoles. I would rather they wait another 1 or 2 before talking about Mass Effect 3. And regards to multiplayer, I don't think Shepard's story should have MP in it. In other Mass Effect titles sure, but not the main trilogy.

It seems way too early for an announcement… granted Irrational Games announced BioShock Infinite two years in advance. I'm certainly excited for ME3, but the multiplayer aspect is a bit troubling… hopefully it doesn't tarnish the overall experience.
  • WoodyWoodrowAndThePanfluteOfDestiny - December 10, 2010 11:58 p.m.

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!
  • xumaximus - December 10, 2010 11:46 p.m.

Mutliplayer......Why!? Is that even what the fans want or is their some other reason?
