Lionhead surveying Fable fans

Lionhead Studios is turning to fans to decide the fate of its Fable franchise in an online survey that asks participants to rank 13 of the series' most prominent features. Not included on the list? English butlers who try to sell you colored dye in the middle of a battle. Consider yourself spared, Jasper. This time.

Above: Huzzah to virtual prostitutes! Nay to virtual real estate management!

Posted on Wednesday, the survey gauges fan interest in a number of game elements including its freedom, charm and humor, lore, the dog, side-quests, and live and local co-op. Strangely, instead of asking for an individual number rating for each, the survey requires participants to rank the 13 elements in terms of 'least favorite' to 'most favorite'. In theory, this is to help Lionhead decide where it can cut afford the fat, but it fails to account for overlap. For instance, one may love the freedom in Fable III as much as having a dog, but ask anyone who's had to babysit that damn mutt for an extended period of time and they'll tell you that it seriously impeded their ability to move about freely – especially where knee-high fences were present.

Though lacking in the details, Lionhead's survey is a nice gesture for fans - even if it is more of a promotion than a bonefide research project. To have your say in the future of Albion, check out the survey here.

The option for a hard(normal?) mode and deeper combat are more than enough for me. More clothes would be nice too. That's my survey some one send it to Molymeuix.
  • mattdark - February 10, 2011 10:24 p.m.

How about getting the bloody PC version out! And a PC version of Fable 2 while were at it!
  • GAYMER - February 10, 2011 10:27 p.m.

I have a suggestion: Bring it to the ps3 please.
  • Dexsus - February 10, 2011 10:29 p.m.

Far be it from me to bad mouth "Max", The super dog who can sniff out a condom buried in 9 inches of dirt from 10 miles away, but hell he could never get around that tree..... Anyways, more customisation and better weapons please, they all looked similar in Fable 3 despite promises of "unique" weapons.
  • Sy87 - February 10, 2011 10:30 p.m.

Ah that is kinda weak. Thats not a proper survey.
  • Cruddi - February 10, 2011 10:33 p.m.

That was overly complicated... be careful you can only pick one question as one number eg Freedom rated (3) Dog rated (11) I can not use 3 or 11 on a diffrent question... hope that was clear lol
  • D0CCON - February 10, 2011 10:35 p.m.

I was hoping for them to mention side quests. That would have earned the most important slot from me, but it is still cool to have some form of a say, even if it is just a drop in the bucket.
  • cart00n - February 10, 2011 10:57 p.m.

Yeah, pretty stupid survey. How about a map that is actually useful? How about an inventory that doesn't take me 5 minutes just to figure out which weapon I need for a particular battle? How about a leveling system that actually reflects what you do in the game? How about releasing a whole game, rather than trying to nickel and dime me just so I can have a full shelf of dyes? How about NOT trying to sell me dlc INSIDE THE FRAKKING GAME - it's annoying enough when it's in the start menu, it's just plain INSULTING when I have to hear about it every other time I need to check my inventory...
  • Crabhand - February 10, 2011 10:57 p.m.

I consider the humor to be the most important aspect of the game, so that's what I rated highest. Lowest on my list were the Live and local co-op features which never really appealed to me.
  • d20Dark - February 10, 2011 11:43 p.m.

I filled it out and I'd love for my voice to be heard. I love Fable 2- it's one of my favorite games this generation, but Fable 3 was a large step backwards. Trying to make a game playable by "everyone" is a huge mistake. I don't care that millions of players didn't know you could change your clothes or change your weapons in Fable 2! Let those idiots drool and their controllers- Fable 3 was TOO simple and didn't offer nearly enough customization or RPG elements. Fable is a phenomenal series because it's so epic in scope. Let the fans speak up and let the 'new comers' to the series go back and play the older games to get caught up! Don't dumb down the future games for people that don't "get" Fable!

I doubt they'll actually listen to the results to this. Obviously what an action-adventure game needs is the ability to hold hands with your "steady girl".

needs more character customization. id like for once to actually make my freedom from start to finish. also the real estate thing wouldn't have been so bad if on the map they had a "Fix All" if only at least on/in the different zones of the map instead of having to do them all individually. tbh Lost Chapters is the ONLY fable game that i replay on a daily basis...the spells were awesome the armor looked cool and JoB was by far one of the best super villians TO ME in gaming, next to ol' Sephy, Kong, Bowser, and Willy... tbh i wouldnt mind seeing a fable 1 remake...or a fable for with said customization features and that somewhat heavily rips off of fable 1... that said no matter if the next game has that stuff in it or not...ill probably be a sucker and buy it like i did these last 2 games...and god was i a sucker for doing that...
  • theintellectual - February 11, 2011 2:12 a.m.

i would definitely love some more character customization. facial, physical ,and maybe even background changes (ala mass effect) would be highly enjoyable. i greatly enjoyed fable 3, but i do agree with d20Dark in that we dont need anymore simplification. so what if some idiots can't operate the most basic of menu systems. Appealing to the "causal" market has been one of the biggest mistakes in gaming. That said, the story and characters were much more enjoyable and i hope the writing continues to improve.
  • WoodyWoodrowAndThePanfluteOfDestiny - February 11, 2011 2:20 a.m.

Considering DAII, Deus Ex, Skyrim, and Mass Effect 3 are coming out, Fable is fighting an uphill battle for my money. Either way this is the best year for RPGs in a long time
  • theintellectual - February 11, 2011 4:59 a.m.

@WoodyWoodrowAndThePanfluteOfDest... yeah fable needs to turn a bit more hardcore if it wants to survive.
  • The4X - February 11, 2011 7:02 a.m.

First make it available for PC, then ask!
  • KingOfFighters - February 11, 2011 9:18 a.m.

The origianl Fable wasvthe best one, and is still my favorite out of the 3. Fable 2 had a good story, and the dog actually fought, making him a good addition and sidekick. Fable 3 had a great concept with ruling the kingdom, but failed to me with the dog, and what happens after taking over Albion. Although, all of them can be beaten in a day (literally), they should be extended like Fable: The Lost Chapter, or by making the game longer with more story elements.
  • Shamanix - February 11, 2011 11:28 a.m.

gotta be one of the hardest surveys i have ever done, see for me freedom is just as important as hero morphing, and hero customization and you gotta chuck the dog in there as well, WHY LIONHEAD WHY DO HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN THEM AHHHHHHHHH
  • jaspm23 - February 11, 2011 12:43 p.m.

bring back death!! fable 2 & 3 is like playing a game with the god mode cheat on. whats the point of combat when its impossible to loose. it becomes just a chore. there is no sense of achievement. obviously u dont want it impossible hard, but u dont want it impossibly easy either!!
  • red069 - February 11, 2011 6:28 p.m.

the first fable was the best one it actually felt like an adventure game fable 3 was like sims be a king edition.. cept you swing a sword around sometimes i enjoyed fable 3 tho in all honesty it wasnt a terrible game.. but the fable series has definitely gone downhill since its first installment to now i dont understand why the character is always the last hero on the face of the planet and why Loghain wasnt a hero but the player was.. they are blood related it doesnt make any sense.. i liked that in fable there were other heroes and you didnt always feel like this unstoppable force. even in fable 2 there were only 4 other heroes if you count theresa and they were all on your team.. the guy you were fighting was just a person.. you would think that the ruler of albion would spread around his genetics and reestablish the heroes guild..
