How to get Payday: The Heist for free!

We like free stuff. And we like good stuff. So when someone offers us free stuff and good stuff, we can’t help but be excited.

Such is the case with the “First Annual PlayStation Network PLAY” initiative announced by SCEA today. It’s a bit confusing for simpler folk like us, but we’ve parsed the details of this deal so you don’t have to.

Starting Aug. 9, gamers can pre-order select games. Each pre-order comes with theme for the PS3. And each game, when purchased, comes with an additional gift. Even better: PlayStation Plus members (anyone? anyone?) will receive an automatic 20% off any game that’s part of the PLAY lineup.

Finally, the goodest part: Buy all four games by Sept. 19 and you’ll get a voucher code for Payday: The Heist, a game we called “the next big thing for Left 4 Dead fans” in a recent preview.

Here’s a quick look at the four games in this initiative:

Street Fighter III Third Strike Online Edition (Aug. 23). Gift: Unlock Gill immediately without having to beat the game with every character.

The Baconing (Aug. 30). Gift: Additional co-op character, Roesha – One Bad Mutha.

BloodRayne: Betrayal (Sept. 6). Gift: Exclusive dynamic theme and virtual item for Home avatar. (And with the 360 version delayed till Oct. 5, this is also a rare third-party PSN timed exclusive!)

Renegade Ops (Sept. 13). Gift: Vehicle & Character Pack including two new vehicles and special weapons.

Was gonna get BloodRayne and Renegade Ops for the 360, but now I'm gonna get BloodRayne on PS3 and get the 20% off with Plus. (I guess timed exclusives do work sometimes. First you gotta own both consoles) Probably still getting Renegade Ops for 360 for the COOP. I prefer Live when it comes to online stuff, for various reasons. Good to see Sony offering such deals!

Well I suppose if you have plus this would be a great deal (if all five games including The Heist are $15 each) because then you can get five brand new PSN titles that would otherwise cost a combined $75 instead for $48, but yah not for me.

Sony usually pulls boner deals like this, I'd be interested if I actually liked the other games aside from SF3TS. I'd much rather just pay the $15 or so for payday on release.

so I spend more money on games I don't want to get the game I do want free? No thanks Sony. I get the promotion but I just can't make myself buy the crap in order to get the one game I do want fo free.

Sounds like a better version of the Xbox Live Summer of Arcade promo. I have no interest in the "Free Game" you get from buying all 5 during SoA. I would put more stock in it if Payday was the bonus game.

It's technically not free if I have to buy the other games.
