When Hellgate: London was first announced, we loved the premise of the action MMO and the story of its origin. Initially developed by Flagship Studios, production on Hellgate was led by a team of former Blizzard employees who had worked on Diablo. Set in a post-apocalyptic future that finds the world under siege by demons, the game sported an excellent class system with a great loot table that reminded us of those good old hack ‘n’ slash days in Diablo II. However, when the game finally released it seemed to lack the amount of content that we wanted to see from an MMO asking for a monthly subscription.
But that was then, and this is now. Hellgate is back again for a second strike as a free-to-play title. Bolstered with extra content from the Hellgate: Tokyo expansion, the second coming of the Diablo-esque action/MMO is ready to open its gates to a select number of players during its closed beta phase on June 3– and we’ve got a ton of keys to share with you. So grab a closed beta key and test drive it first and for free when the closed beta phase begins tomorrow.
Above: We have fond memories of Hellgate’s loot system, which was exceptionally groovy
