GI Joe: The Rise Of Cobra has opened to good business, taking an estimated $100 million worldwide on its opening weekend. It's been enough for Rob Moore, Paramount Pictures' vice chairman, to announce that a sequel will be going into development soon. Whether or not the sequel will also be helmed by Stephen Sommers, who is not contractually obliged to return for later films, remains to be seen.
But despite its strong opening weekend, GI Joe hasn't quite managed to hold on to that early success - ticket sales in the US fell by a sharp 18% from Friday to Saturday.
