GamesRadar UK Podcast E3 Special: What did you think of this year's E3?

What did you think of this year's E3? We positively have to know because next week's GamesRadar UK Podcast is going to officially be a very special 'E3 Special'. So please share your thoughts/opinions/observations/questions with us in the comments. We will take those thoughts/opinions/observations/questions and talk about as many of them as we can on next week's GamesRadar UK Podcast. Which is going to be an E3 special. Did we mention that? So we really want your input to make it super-extra-mega-special.

Admittedly the only unusually special thing about the podcast is the fact it'll be dedicated to all things E3. Oh, and we'll also have an as-yet-unconfirmed very special guest who was actually important enough to be at E3. Who will it be? Seriously, who will it be? We don't know because we haven't sorted it out yet. But we will. Probably. Either way, it's going to be special. Probably.

So then, for lots of stimulating and informed E3 discussion and debating with - of course - all the usual nonsense, innuendo, screeching etc. Be sure to share your thoughts/opinions/observations/questions below and then listen with your ears to the  GamesRadar UK Podcast E3 Special next Wednesday. That's June 13. Join us. Or don't bother. It's entirely up to you really.

In the meantime, feel free to peruse with your ears the GamesRadar UK Podcast's exciting back catalogue.

Hello there team first of all e3 was as big a let down as Prometheus. When I was watching nintendos conference I had a thought about wii u that no one has addressed as far as I know, you know Nintendo are stating that if for some reason you are denied playing wii u on a tv you can play it on the gamepad screen, well wouldn't this make alot of the Wii u's capabilities and selling point redundant? For example if for some reason you've waited to play arkham city on wii u unlike everyone else who played it last year maybe you wanted to wait for some terrible armour for batman and catwoman, how would playing it only on the gamepad work? cos if you play it on a tv the gamepad is your inventory would ii just go to a menu button or zombi u when you can see zombies behind you on the tv and your suppose to type a code in on the gamepade how does that work only on gamepad? Seems stupid that you'd lose all dual screen functionality would some games just not be compatible at all with gamepad screen only play? It would never be a problem for me cos I'd never not have access to my tv but it would seem silly that one of the selling points they're pushing would make the systems main feature redundant. Also do you think ubisoft employ complete wankers to present they're conference to make Their games look better? You can't wait for them to shut the fuck up and show a game any game clever marketing ha. Great show guys unlike this years e3 xxx and one more incase you have a guest. P.s. the new enemies in halo 4 look like a gameloft rip off of halo enemies shite!

Most people here have already voiced my thoughts, but I'll throw my bonnet into the E3 ring anyway. Nintendo conference felt like a missed oppurtunity. They could have blown everyone away with some awesome Wii U stuff (HD Zelda anyone?) but instead it all felt kinda ho-hum. I was excited about the 3DS stuff because I luv mah 3DS and I want some sexy new games for it (FF6 remake please! Or a new Zelda!) but it was mostly just stuff we've seen before. I'm not going to pretend I have a huge interest in Microsoft stuff since I don't own a 360 so I'll keep this brief: Kinect = Still looks shite. Smart Glass = Why? As for Sony, I'm still confused and scared regarding the unknown fate of The Last Guardian. It was one of the main reasons I bought a PS3 and I was really hoping it would make a comeback at this year's show. The Last of Us looks really sweet and its fireballed to the top of my WANT list. Playstation All Stars Battle Royale still hasnt gotten me excited in the lower regions. Even if Bioshock's Big Daddies are in them. I guess it still just feels like Sony's own Smash Bros rip off. PS Vita: dear oh dear. Sony really need to get their act together on this one. I've already mentioned that I love my shiny 3DS to bits, and aside from Persona 4, Sony still havnt given me any real reason to splah money on another handheld. At least Assassins Creed: Liberation looked good on Vita. Watch Dogs could potentially be brilliant, but its only the graphics I can say for sure amazed me. s for the gameplay, I'd need to get my own hands on it to decide. Sqeare Enix's new tech demo was nice, but Squeenix games always have stunning graphics anyway, so it wasnt telling me anything new. Show me some actual games Square! The standout for E3 was the new footage of big games like Resi 6 (explosions!), Ass Creed 3 (ships!) and the new trailer for Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 (Begbie!) All in all, it was an okay E3, but it suffered from a lack of anything new, revolutionary or exciting. A big fat 7/10 for E3 2012. :P
  • BladedFalcon - June 11, 2012 8:54 a.m.

I'd even say a 7 is quite a generous score...
  • scaler2000 - June 9, 2012 5:12 a.m.

do you think other publishers should have open conferences? like take 2 or Bethesda?
  • system1988 - June 8, 2012 noon

Very nice Expo but the BIG FAIL for me was Arkham City Armored Edition. Why screw with a 10/10 game just to advertise your new console??? Also... no new Batman game announcement. I am afraid that Rocksteady has nothing and they still plan to milk the Arkham City story dry.... The only thing missing from E3 was a new Batman game.
  • SpadesSlick - June 8, 2012 10:24 a.m.

Why does it seem that whoever made the story for this Tomb Raider game really gets off on Lara getting hurt and moaning in pain in various ways?
  • YouAreTearingMeApartAntista - June 8, 2012 9:09 a.m.

Is it just me, or did the animation in Tomb Raider and Resident Evil 6 look terrible. Everytime Lara or Leon performed an action their animations looked jerky and really stiff. I know they are unfinished products, but i'm now rethinking buying these games, both of which I was really excited for. Just thought it was weird, that's all. P.S. I didn't know Michael Bay was on the team making Resi games nowadays.
  • HankVenture - June 8, 2012 8:19 a.m.

I gotta say, for the big trio (Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft) I was pretty dissapointed. Nintendo has a new console coming out this year, but they didn't make a big deal about it. I hated Kinect showing from last year but Nintendo should have put that amount of effort and enthusiam into showing off their console. Microsoft was the worst. They showed us smart glass, the ability to link two devices to one another, and seeing as most ppl don't have a tablet, its just the ability to link ur tv to ur phone. They showed off the movie aspect the most, and I dk about you but the thing I don't wanna do while I watch a movie, is read. The interaction with halo 4 was neat I do admit but that was only shown for a brief second meaning no other games have really done anything with this. The nike athetic thing while interesting, should not have been a main event , not many people want to compare workout sessions so that's pointless and its almost the same thing as every other workout game. Sony, was the best out of the group but only because the other two failed. Course it forgot about the Vita. All in all every company left things on the floor which should have been on stage, 3DS games, ps Vita games. Just games when it comes to microsoft. Non of the companies made me go Holy fUcking shit that's awesome, and get me insanely excited (besides hAlo 4 but that's because I love halo) It was mainly gameplay of games we knew about and while cool not the jump up and shout reaction a brand new game or awesome new tech. Would get from the crowd. E3 has just turned into (let's show off the games you already know about)which sucks because I want to see news from E3 that excites me down to my toes!
  • Kelshaw1996 - June 8, 2012 6:04 a.m.

After the safe Sony conference and a terrible Microsoft conference, Nintendo had the opentunity to steal the show, but instead they pissed it away by either adding gimmicks to games we've already played or by showing new games (pickmin 3 and Mario U) that don't really need the new controller or the horsepower of the machine, and the ending of the conference with that stupid mini game collection was up there with the Twisted Metal ending Sony had in 2010
  • SiPod - June 8, 2012 6 a.m.

Personally, this year's show felt like filler content to me. Particularly disappointed by Nintendo's offering. To an extent it's understandable that they wouldn't play all of their cards whilst so many unknowns exist with Sony-and-co's next-gen plans. But it really couldn't have hurt to have shown a little more than they did. It didn't help that the presentation itself was atrocious (barring Shigsy, but he could call my Mum a whore and I'd laugh and only cry on the inside). There were too many mixed messages, and I'm left wondering who the Wii U is actually for. Still. Castlevania on the 3DS looked good. So, swings and roundabouts eh.
  • KidJustKid - June 8, 2012 5 a.m.

This year's show, despite the new and somewhat unexpected IPs of Beyond and Watch Dogs, felt generally overly restrained and held back in anticipation of next year's explosion of Gen 8 gaming. So, from the queues and hints of this year's show, what do you think will be in the headlines come E3 2013? Hugs to all and a little reacharound if Cundy wants it. ^_^" Captcha: accompanied Coondy
  • Matt Cundy - June 8, 2012 5:11 a.m.

E3 2013 - yes that's something we should definitely talk about. Most interesting. And thanks for the virtual affection. You know how to make a man feel special.
  • BladedFalcon - June 8, 2012 4:56 a.m.

Hey guys! My main question/Request is. Could you guys take some time to share what you guys thought about What Konami unveiled? (mainly, MGR: Revengeance, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 and Castlevania: Mirror of fate.) I know this is mainly bias from me, but personally, their reveals and videos got me way more excited than any of the other actual E3 announcements and demos. So I'd like to know what is your opinion on that. Or on games that were revealed/showcased in the weekend before E3 in general, since to me, those were all exciting, and without any of the guff and bollocks every single main press conference had. And yeah, if it hasn't been evident, my main feeling about this E3, is one of sore disappointment. All of the 5 conferences felt unnecessarily long, with lots of unnecessary talking. (And I know this is par for the course in most E3, but before it was usually offset by showing more exciting things.) And they all had at least one big, huge gaping flaw in their presentation: -Microsoft's pretentious assumption that every or most 360 users had or used Kinect, and that they still dedicated good part of the show focusing on stuff for that useless peripheral. -Ubisoft's lack of any comment regarding Beyond Good and Evil 2. And while they had the most exciting announcements, they really need to work harder on picking their hosts. Aisha Tyler did a good job 70% of the time... When she wasn't trying to make a joke, and then laughing out loud about it, or interacting with the annoying co-host that was Tobuscus, which of course, is the other big main problem: He was obnoxious as hell, in every section he was in. Sure, not Mr. Caffeine obnoxious, but still bad. -EA's droning conference that pretty much only had sequels to offer, lack of any mention regarding Overstrike, and the fact that they introduced a mechanic in Dead Space, that very probably will make the game feel less scary overall: a co-op designed AI companion that apparently will be alongside you for msot of the game. SCARY. -Wonderbook, need I say more? Well... Yes I do, actually, how about the appalling lack of support for the Vita, even though they apparently had 25 games for it? (Which by the way, even now I've yet to even see a list of what these supposed 25 games are supposed to be.) -Nintendo... Man, I don't even think a single paragraph will do to describe everything that was wrong with Nintendo's conference. And pretty sure you guys will more than happily point out most of that out. Whew! quite a long ramble! I hope this won't discourage you from reading guys! ^^; And if you do read it, then thank you for bearing with me rants!
  • Matt Cundy - June 8, 2012 5:09 a.m.

No apology needed for the length of ramble. There's plenty about E3 to discuss. Hopefully we'll be able to cover some/all these points in the poddle.
  • BladedFalcon - June 8, 2012 5:16 a.m.

Ah, thanks for reassuring a fellow! And I'll be looking forward to listening to your show! ^^ Also, Bonus Question! How apathetic/Suspicious/Cynical is Dave feeling about Beyond: Two souls? I gamine the answer's obvious, but I've like to hear it from the man himself. XD
  • BladedFalcon - June 8, 2012 5:21 a.m.

    *Imagine, not gamine. Atrocious typo from my part, apologies >>;
  • Tenlo - June 8, 2012 4:47 a.m.

I must admit it was a bit naff this year. NO big hardware or game announcements though Watch Dogs shows there is some future for gaming still. I'm still trawling through the announcements and theres nothing that I didn't know about already on show though Zeno Clash 2 is something I didn't think I'd ever see. On plus points MS didn't go too heavy with the kinect stuff but disappointed us with the entertainment apps as half of them won't be coming to the UK again!! I missed Sony's conference but was really surprised at how little Wow was at Nintendo's conference though, really underwhelming. Ahh well next year will hopefully be better with the new hardwares. So what was your guys biggest missed opportunity? Who could have stolen the show if they'd just done something better? Was there anything you were genuinely suprised at or didn't know was coming already? Look forward to the podcast as ever guys, you keep me smiling like a madman on the way to work!
  • loonyman978 - June 8, 2012 4:30 a.m.

No Last Guardian!! Arrows everywhere!! Sony had best concole conferece, but ubisoft owned everyone!! Watch Dogs looks better than reality!! Absolutly no talk of PS4/Xbox 720!! So much excitement!!
  • KidKatana - June 8, 2012 4:30 a.m.

Indeed, it was a piss-poor showing from Nintendo. I was actually gobsmacked when Reggie asked us to 'again' give it up for Nintendoland as the finale, I seriously thought they'd bring out something big. I understand what they're getting at, but what amounts to a shallow gameplay experience is not gonna sell me on a new console - I wanna see how Zelda and Metroid use the new controller, not a bunch of contrived minigames. I'm afraid to say I was so disappointed by the lack of a big franchise reveal at the end that it soured my attitude towards Pikmin 3. I'm sure it will play brilliantly, but I'm taking Nintendo to task on the graphics - considering the setting, I think they should have pushed the environments more in the direction of 'photorealistic'. Not that it didn't look nice, but it really didn't look good enough to sell me on the console - I mean, Uncharted 2 looks better and that game came out a couple of years ago. I'm sure that will attract some negative 'graphic whore' comments, but frankly I'm sick of Nintendo claiming that they wanna do something for everyone while utterly ignoring the fact that a lot of their old fans want pimped out, lush-looking versions of all their classic franchises with fleshed-out gameplay ideas instead of a dumbed-down experience with tacked-on gimmicky controls. Right, sorry about that rant. Love you really Shigsy!
  • Mooshon - June 8, 2012 4:29 a.m.

Bit disappointing but wasn't too bad overall. The games won. MS/Sony were obviously having a quiet one before next years launches but Nintendo are worrying me a bit. It was their chance to put their pool balls in a sock and shout 'who's the fuckin daddy now!' - but they kind of got bummed in the potting shed. They looked to be focusing back on core gaming but have simply delivered social/casual gaming mark 2. Their first party titles looked nice but not really next gen and their big mature (old) 3rd party ones felt a bit lobbed in. Also, awkward names much? Wii Fit U, Super Mario Bros U, Zombie U? Miiverse looks pretty cool, briefly. Did they need to recreate Twitter though?? Are Ninty games that tough that you need a dynamic stage by stage help-feed? Everyone slated them but I thought MS had the best strategic announcements, even if a bit reactive. Smartglass enabling existing tech for gaming and multimedia, Nike+ looked a better real world evolution of Wii Fit than Wii Fit U and the IE browser addition will actually be really useful. Away from the amazing Beyond and Last of Us exclusives I though Sony looked a bit desperate; trying to make a play for future living room platform. Not sure they're positioned well enough yet of have the money to win that one.
