GamesRadar UK Podcast 017 - Duck Chainsaw

With the passionately verbose Hooters absent from proceedings due to 'holiday', you'd think Episode 17 would be a lot shorter due to there being fewer words. Turns out the opposite is true - this is the LONGEST EVER episode in the UK GamesRadar Poddle's history. It's a quacker, too, thanks in no small part to Cundy bringing in some aural props to augment your auditory pleasure. In other words, there's a duck toy.

In Hooters' stead is Ben Tyrer, who is here with us on Work Experience from Bournemouth University. So if you're wondering how to go about getting into the games journalism industry, you should find this podcast particularly useful. We also had a huge response to our GamesRadar UK Question Box article on the site (so look out for that again next week) which means the Electronic mailbag (bzzzzt) is overflowing with great questions.

There's also all the almighty Towell Joke Factory, plus a twice-around-the-table Round Table. It's basically, essentially, a podcast about games. So don't delay - click the 'Click to hear us now!' black banner below RIGHT NOW before it runs away. You can also subscribe to the podcast via iTunes and have it delivered to you every fortnight. For free!

The games we're giving away on the podcast this week are: The incredible(y crap) Steel Battalion for Xbox 360 Kinect, and FIFA 08 on PS2. No, don't thank us. To be in with a chance of winning these out-of-this-world gaming treasures, listen out for the question at the start of the podcast and leave your answer in the comments on this very page. Best answer wins. Good luck.

Hope I'm not too late here... I play video games just to get away from the stress of real life. The teenage life is great but with the parents fighting and friend circles and getting a job and all to deal with it's nice to go away to some fantasy land where that doesn't happen. I guess that's why I never cared for realism in games either, I'm trying to get away from that.

I play video games because it's "Field Research" for my Uni course of Games Programming... or so I keep telling myself as I waste hours of maths study on Minecraft making my dirt house look ever so slightly less shitty.

Only about half way through right now, but so far plenty of hilarity has ensued!! Good job lads so far!! And i play games because where else am i supposed to learn such valuable life lessons as :- If i rest against a chest high wall, all ailments will be cured in seconds. Everyone has something only i can help them with. and always be prepared, a QTE could strike at any moment!! :-)

I play games because if I didn't then I'd actually have to go outside, and for some reason people don't like it when I pull them out of their car, slap them in the face with a pink dildo and drive off. People are weird.

Nice 'cast guys! Young Ben made a great addition to the crew. Maybe we'll hear more of him in later episodes?

Within the first 8 minutes of Lollipop Chainsaw review, there are enough funny noises to make a seriously sick dubstep remix.
  • tomlofkin - June 27, 2012 7:59 a.m.

I play video games because it makes me happy. Simple.

Well have fun with raging at CoD multiplayer, and FIFA hax, and falling through the floor of GTA or Mass Effect. Games outside handhelds seem really to have lost their sense of fun. I now play to be excited in the same way I'd watch a decent movie. That said, I am a fan of David Cronenberg, so take what you will...

  • rxb - June 27, 2012 4:11 a.m.

    broken podcast link.
  • GR_JustinTowell - June 27, 2012 4:15 a.m.

It's working here... Do you mean the black 'click to hear us now' banner?
  • rxb - June 27, 2012 4:55 a.m.

The 'click to hear us now ' link. sends me to a '404 not found' page. I dont use itunes so Im still without podcast.
  • ShortFuse - June 27, 2012 5:06 a.m.

Can't say I'm having any problems here loading it, rxb. Hope it fixes for you soon!
  • rxb - June 27, 2012 5:08 a.m.

Hi guys, just tried it again, its working fine now. Thanks
  • Matt Cundy - June 27, 2012 5:12 a.m.

Very weird. One other person has reported a 404, but we can't find a problem. Anyone else experiences difficulty, let us know here. The only thing I can think of is that it's a load issue because there are probably like a million people all trying to download it at once. Could be something to do with that. Maybe.
