What is this crap, we all know as soon as master chief gets close to commander shepard (within a half mile) his head will explode due to the sheer epicness of the orchestrated music accompanying the chief. Also considering Master chief has fallen from space to earth, and just got back up and was like whatever, singlehanded gave the humans exactly what they needed to win the war with the covenant, has the restraint not to try to be sexual with cortana(shepard would have tried to hit that, and I know the chief doesn't have a sex drive, but I had to make that sad little joke), and is genetically altered superhuman with shielded armor. People are obviously voting for favorite, rather than who would actually win.

    Lmfaooooo at the sex drive!!!
  • Aarononymous - November 2, 2012 7:36 p.m.

"Chief isn’t the strongest or most crafty hero, and he isn’t particularly charismatic or intelligent or playful." According to Halo lore, this is all compared to other SPARTANS. Compared to us average schmucks he is a super-strong, crafty, charismatic genius.
  • zombi3grim - November 2, 2012 8:01 p.m.

Shepard will win because his saga is multiplat while Master Chief is exclusive to the Xbox 360. I voted for Chief, because its obvious, even with biotics, that chief fights more on his own then Shepard and in a one on one fight, Shepard would get his ass kicked.
  • nintendo365 - November 2, 2012 8:28 p.m.

THE only argument we need for Master Chief to win: Shepard has died once before, Chief hasnt. PERIOD. He died once, what chance does he have against a literal one man army? Chief would punch his face in, literally- Hes genetically engineered to be a badass. GR, make the next one a crew vs crew fight. Borderlands 1 Vault Hunters vs the team from Bulletstorm. That would be an epic battle.
  • Tyrande - November 2, 2012 8:51 p.m.

if it was a pure badassery contest Master Chief wins hands down, no argument there. but i chose Commander Shepard for the sole reason that he can gather, command and earn the complete trust of the must badass bunch of teamates ever: Garrus of course, Wrex, Thane, Jack, Tali and so on.
  • Karshayn - November 2, 2012 9:10 p.m.

I'll admit a minute or so of thinking, but finally gone for Shepard. With all due respect to the Chief ( and that means MUCH respect) and all the strong arguments in favor of him winning, I believe Shepard (especially as Vanguard, a Biotic, hell even a Soldier with Adrenaline Rush) would be able to defeat him on one-on-one (tough it would be a ery close call, maybe even a draw with both of them killed). Shepard fought plenty of tough fighters with shields during his carreer and has also been show to have lightning reflexs during his fight with Kai Leng. He seems to me equally proficient with weapon as the Chief and can pack a whopping punch with his fists ( as a certain 9 foot ton-weigt yagh can agree), let alone his omni-blade. He also know how to use his environment and if anything happens, he could always Renegade-interrupt the chief ;) That been said, anybody who don't respect the Chief for all his badassery needs to die from Grunts farting)

Only one of these guys actually survived free-falling from space. Do you honestly think Shepherd could take on multiple Scarabs with only a rifle and a few grenades? This battle goes to the Chief. Hands down.
  • slimjim441 - November 2, 2012 10:25 p.m.

Gotta give it to the Commander. Granted, I've never been a Halo fan after the first game, but to be honest, Halo 4 looks pretty rad, if I had an Xbox, I'd actually consider getting it. I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but trust me, that's big for me. Props to both contenders. They probably wouldn't fight each other anyway. Shepard would just say 'you don't need to throw your life away,' and they'd both just get some drinks with Samus and Doom Marine. No one knows what happened that night, but the Chief's got a broken collar bone and Samus is still really pissed.
  • RadgarLaser2 - November 2, 2012 10:52 p.m.

If this was Robot Chicken they would be kissing instead of fighting. There might be some truth in that regardless.
  • Baz - November 3, 2012 4:46 a.m.

the master chief would win in a no holds barred fight. but depending on the decisions you make with shepherd he could come out as more badass because he has no problem pushing dudes out of windows or punching people in the face because he's tired of talking to them. but saying that the chief has gone like 5 steps further in his few actual badass moments like riding a bomb through a space battle to blow up a covie ship. so its really hard to choose. my decision is ased on the pure fiction that if they swapped universes the chief would probably climb up every reaper individually and punch it in its weak spot until it collapsed screaming in its unnatural robot voice for mercy. whereas shepherd would probably spend the latter half of halo 3 attempting to bed miranda keyes.
  • alex-roy-bristol - November 3, 2012 8:17 a.m.

Chief. He's more badass. Better written? Not by a fucking LONG shot. More BA? Fo'sho man, fo'sho...
  • SentientSquidMachine - November 3, 2012 9:03 a.m.

Com. Sheppard for being an angelic psychopath with Bond swag. How about Fem Shep. vs Samus? c'mon GR
  • Dmastaj187 - November 3, 2012 9:22 a.m.

Is this honestly even a competition? Master chief survived all out war with the covenant, atmospheric entry with absolutely no protection other than his armor, he defeat the covenant AND The flood single handed while Shepard needs a squad and can't even put a dent in the reapers. And if I remember correctly, there's an option to die as part of the story in mass effect 2, for chief, dying is not even an option. Shepard can barely handle collectors, meanwhile chief jumps from spas hip to spaceship in halo 2 and detonates a massive bomb with practically 2 seconds left. Please, in terms of sheer willpower, badass, and fighting, master chief wins by a mile
  • FOZ - November 3, 2012 10:14 a.m.

The armor is the only protection he needs on atmospheric entry. He didn't survive it just because he's tough, he survived because the armor is made to be able to survive going through an atmosphere. So that's a pretty goofy thing to say. But anyway, Master Chief gave the Covenant back their bomb, and that's all that matters.
  • Dmastaj187 - November 3, 2012 2:30 p.m.

No, he survived it because of his sheer willpower. Last I remember, N7 armor is considered one of the most advanced pieces of armor in the galaxy (according to the codex) and yet Shepard died. Master chief armor is only partly to blame, he survived based on his badass rank
  • Pwnz0r3d - November 5, 2012 10:36 a.m.

He died when a leak was exposed in his helmet. The armor and helmet had his body (and brain) survive atmospheric reentry. Shepard died from asphyxiation. Not burning in the atmosphere. And honestly, the Reapers are a much bigger threat than the Covenant AND the Flood COMBINED. They're billions of years ahead technologically, it took a whole fleet (the largest one in the galaxy) to destroy ONE of them, and they focus on corrupting lifeforms to make up their ground force. The more they kill, they more soldiers they get. The Flood is similar, but they don't work in tandem with the Covenant in the way the Reapers do.
  • ugliergnat - November 3, 2012 9:25 a.m.

Chief fights a 12 foot tall 4 ton alien with nothing but his fists and a grenade...
  • BlackKraken - November 3, 2012 9:28 a.m.

I put a daft amount of thought into this. Chief would win against a soldier or engineer shepard mano-a-mano. Against a biotic shepard I think shepard would win, as chief has nothing to counter that with. Some arguments put that shepard would win as he has a team of "badasses" (your words not mine). If we go by this not being a straight up 1v1 scenario then that means master chief also has other spartans with him, making it far harder to call. I think MC and other spartans would win in this scenario as of all shepard's buddy characters, not a lot of them are straight up combat orientated (aka Tali, Liara, Mordin etc). Wrex and grunt would give them a run for their money, but lets not forget Hunters in the Halo mythos. The spartans would win with some casualties. I'm expecting a reply of "tl:dr" to this :P
  • Dmastaj187 - November 3, 2012 9:37 a.m.

Master chief handled a hunter with his bare fists and 1 hand grenade. I think that having grunt and wrex is not a factor here
  • Dmastaj187 - November 3, 2012 9:53 a.m.

Ok hold on, I'll end this argument right here and now Shepard's achievements -enlisted at 18 -held off an enemy battalion at the skills an blitz -defeated 3 races with the help of a squad (geth, collectors, repears) -has biotic skills -hits reporters -endorses stores at the citadel -die due to asphyxiation in outer space and disintegrated in atmospheric re entry and was revived by someone will billions in resources over a two year timespan Master chief -abducted at the age of 7 and put into the most intensive training program known to man where more than 80 percent die upon augmentation - held off MULTIPLE battalions single handedly -defeated the covenant, which is not one enemy but a coalition of multiple alien races, 7 to be exact (elites brutes jackals grunts prophets hunters and those flying bugs) -defeated the flood, which had the capabilities to wipe out and devour all sentient life in the galaxy -prevent not one attempt at destroying the galaxy, but TWO (the activation of the halo rings, and the flood) -survived atmospheric re entry, got up, and proceeded to shove a gun into arbiters mouth as if he didn't just fall from space. - jumped from one giant ship, with a bomb, and landed it on another alien ship blowing them both up -weighs over 2 tons and is 7 feet tall, yet moves like a gazelle on speed Plain and simple, commander Shepard doesn't need a squad to take out 7 races, 1 destructive parasitic lifeform, ships the size of continents, and atomspheric reentry, he can do it BY HIMSELF Shepard would need to Normandy to stand a chance against chief, and even then, chief would probably jump from the collector ship, with a bomb and land on the Normandy! Case rested!
