DS more popular than sleep, food and sex

Nintendo has today proudly announced that it has sold 21.27 million DS handhelds worldwide since its November 2004 launch.

The total includes sales of DS and DS Lite - the new, sleeker design of the dual-screened handheld - and equates to 23 systems per minute. That's nearly one every two seconds, non-stop since launch.

George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications, stated that he was "thrilled to be announcing this milestone" and attributed the success to "Nintendo's overall strategy of offering something for everyone".

Nintendo also continued its constant comparisons to Apple and the iPod by pointing out that only 19 million units of the micro-music player had shipped in the same amount of time.
