Does anyone else think this Nintendo 3DS music sounds familiar?

OK. This is pretty obscure, but I'm going to throw it out there anyway as it's been stuck in my head for a few days. If you have a 3DS you will undoubtedly have been charmed by the StreetPass Mii Plaza music. It's very catchy. But from the first moment it tinkled its way into my ears, it sounded very familiar. After much memory digging, I found the tune that it reminded me of. As I said, it’s pretty obscure, but please listen and compare and try and tell me the two don't sound pretty bloody similar.

You don't need to listen to the whole songs, just the first 20 seconds of both will do.

First up, the StreetPass Mii Plaza music:

Now check out Eumir Deodato's version of Marcos Valle's 'Summer Samba':

You hear it? You must hear it. They're practically the same song. I found this to be amazing and just wanted to share. And even if you think I'm talking complete balls, well, at least you've listened to Summer Samba. And that means your day has been enriched by 100%.

That is all.

Has anyone noticed that the music on Street Plaza when a mii is added is a rippoff of "Zidane's theme" in Final Fantasy 9?

So why does the original version remind me of Bomberman 64?! lol but yeah they're the same song, nice catch!

Oh no, it's like Metal Gear Solid all over again! Seriously, people come up with similar songs sometimes, usually having no knowledge of one another.

The flutes are along a similar sort of rhythm and tempo, but I don't think they sound the same. If anything, the 3DS tune reminds me of the Animal Crossing music.

The 'real' version of the song, with vocals: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwgnacnku1k Still think it sounds the same? Obviously Nintendo hopped on board the 'Samba' wagon for these arrangements, but that's how samba is.

This song was posted on the Australian Nintendo forums back in 2008. http://www.aussie-nintendo.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-13628.html Coincidence???? Probably.

Also thank you for getting the song stuck in my head.
  • killerjon666 - March 30, 2011 5:16 p.m.

Yep nintendo ripped it right out of the elevator.
  • RoeTaKa - March 30, 2011 3:04 p.m.

The 3DS song made me think of Groundhog Day at first. ...but no these songs don't really sound alike, besides similar melody phrasing.
  • RonnyLive19881 - March 30, 2011 2:58 p.m.

Nintendo's version is better! Reminds me of Animal Crossing... I can't wait to get that for 3DS!
  • Kyo - March 30, 2011 2:10 p.m.

Haha yea they sound just like each other, even when you play them at the same time they're similar. I noticed the music on the home menu for the mii creater sounds like something from animal crossing too.. could just be me though.
  • Rivenscry - March 30, 2011 1:55 p.m.

Rofl, you're right, they are the same or at least similar. Wow, no grammar at all...:(
  • 8bitBaby - March 30, 2011 1:16 p.m.

  • OriginalJonty - March 30, 2011 1:02 p.m.

For some reason it reminded me of The Magic Roundabout.

Can't help but notice that the tubas in the Street Pass music sound like teeny farts.
