Disney survey points to Epic Mickey sequel

Disney's Epic Mickey, the company's collaboration with Deus Ex developer Warren Spector, was particularly well received in GamesRadar’s review, but the Wii-exclusive platformer didn’t receive the attention we felt it deserved. Still, there’s good news for Disney fans in the form of a survey, suggesting that a sequel is in the works.

Here's four prospective covers for a potential Disney title that might be called Epic Mickey 2: Return of the Mad Doctor, Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, Epic Mickey 2: Mystery on Mean Street, or just plain old Epic Mickey 2. According to Destructoid, the game, survey participants were told, would reunite Mickey and his long-lost brother, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, a prototypal Disney animated character licensed out but regained by the studio in 2006. Mickey's paint and thinner from the first game would be joined by Oswald's powers of flight and lightning, with the game supporting two-player split-screen play in “a world filled with Disney's forgotten characters.”

“Based on the description you just read, how likely would you be to buy Disney Epic Mickey 2 for yourself, your family or someone else?” the survey asks. How likely indeed?

Didn't play the first one. Won't play the second. However, the games look interesting, and from what I've heard the first was good. I think it'd be an intelligent move to put out a sequel.

very, if it comes out for PS3
  • codystovall - August 30, 2011 2:03 p.m.

Would make a good ds game.

    (wink wink)
  • docvega - August 30, 2011 2:09 p.m.

It would make a really good game. If it happened to come out on PS3.

I would definitely like to see a sequel, but it would be better received if it goes multi-platform.
  • NotBraze - August 30, 2011 2:15 p.m.

Quite frankly, I would buy the hell out of this! Particularly if the other rumor of PS360 support turns out to be true.

Improve the controls a bit, and I'm game! Epic Mickey was cool, but when it came to combat, Mickey flat-out sucks at it. Trying to move and aim at the same time got a bit confusing (maybe better for you FPS folks, but I don't do those besides Fallout). Either that, or you know, Disney, you could prod SquareEnix about the progress on Kingdom Hearts 3...hinthint...

Progress on Kingdom Hearts 3? Here's a hint: none. At all. That isn't sarcasm or a joke, either.
  • yoshiking - August 30, 2011 2:18 p.m.

It'd be cool if the next game had 3DS/Wii connectivity for co-op...but, you know, that's not gonna happen

It should be mentioned that they are wanting to make this across all platforms. (At least according to a few other websites) Good news for me. Slap some HD graphics on that sucker, actually implement a morale system this time around and make it so it MATTERS WHAT YOU DO THIS TIME. If these 3 get completed this will be an instant buy for me....on the 360.
  • Redeater - August 30, 2011 2:22 p.m.

I spent the first half of the game making sure everything was painted until I found out nothing you do matters! You want to dissolve everything in the game including enemies?? Well here is a 3 second interchangeable cut scene that you get! I'm sorry the potential for the last game still bothers me.
  • Thomas233701 - August 30, 2011 3:12 p.m.

    I'd buy it!!

"Still, there’s good news for Disney fans in the form of a survey, suggesting that a sequel is in the works." TRANSLATION: "Still, there’s good news for Chris Antista in the form of a survey, suggesting that a sequel is in the works." Ha, but seriously I hope they can iron out some of the gameplay issues if they do make a sequel since the design was great!

Totally would buy this! Though, like others, I would love to see it go to other platforms, especially now that both 360 and PS3 have their own waggle-bots. As good as the first game looked, a sequel with HD graphics would be gorgeous.
  • MouseKlok - August 30, 2011 4:55 p.m.

Please, please, PLEASE let this happen! Epic Mickey was such a wonderful game! I want more!
  • santaclouse37 - August 30, 2011 5:56 p.m.

An Epic Mickey article not written by Chris? WHAT'S GOING ON HERE?!
  • Im2awesome - August 31, 2011 8:15 a.m.

my thoughts EXACTLY my good man.
  • Spybreak8 - August 30, 2011 6:06 p.m.

While that's good news I was kinda expecting a 360/PS3 port before they decided to make a sequel. I know it would sell better if that happened.
  • 510BrotherPanda - August 30, 2011 6:49 p.m.

I'd really like to play as Oswald; his character in the first game was surprisingly likable and re-lit my interest in Disney stuff. I hope Warren Sector is still heading the project, IF it is in pre-production...
