Destiny: Xur weapons, gear, and location December 2 - 4. The 4th Horseman!

Xur, Destiny’s weekend Exotic trader, part-time occultist, and morbid troubadour, is back. This week he’s in the Tower, over near the Crucible Quartermaster.

But what, pray tell, is he selling?

This. This is what he is selling.

• Peregrine Greaves (Exotic Titan boots) – 13 Strange Coins
• Crest of the Alpha Lupi (Exotic Hunter chest armour) – 13SC
• Voidfang Vestments (Exotic Warlock chest armour) – 13SC
• The 4th Horseman (Exotic shotgun) – 17SC
• Legacy Engram (Leg armour) – 31 Strange Coins
• Silver Bullet (Nemesis Star Ornament) – 25 Silver Dust
• Not a Toy (Zhalo Supercell Ornament) – 25 Silver Dust
• Three of Coins – 7SC
• Glass Needle – 3SC

But what, you might also demand to know, is good?

Well not the Titans’ Peregrine Greaves for a start. They give you a more powerful shoulder charge when activated in mid-air. That’s basically it. Decent for the Crucible, but not actually even particularly exciting just in that context. The Hunters’ Crest of Alpha Lupi is a good support Exotic, particularly for revive-based Crucible modes, in that it speeds up resurrections – both incoming and outgoing – but don’t expect anything godlike from it.

The Warlocks’ Voidfang Vestments are probably the best bit of armour this week, but you’ll need to do a bit of work on your build to get the full potential out of them. They add an extra seeker shot to your Axion Bolt grenades, and ensure that you always spawn with a full grenade gauge. That obviously limits half of their usefulness to Guardians who actually use Axion Bolts, but the immediate readiness of grenades means that Warlocks who have their amour tuned up to disperse meter energy elsewhere on grenade hits – or kills – can power up their whole combat system pretty nicely. Though obviously its biggest boon comes in – again – the Crucible. The biggest downside to their appearance this week though, comes in the fact that – just like the Crest of Alpha Lupi – if you really wanted them, you probably bought them last week. When both were also on sale. Get it together, Xur.

But there’s a gigantic, rapidly exploding silver lining this week, in the shape of The 4th Horseman. Lacking any subtlety whatsoever, The Horseman is nevertheless one of the most effective (and fun) Exotic shotguns in the game. Packing a five-round magazine, which it can unload almost instantly thanks to its full-auto feature, it might lack range and stability, but as a rushdown gun it’s almost flawless. Just charge in, run the trigger, and you’ll find that most things you put in front of it will find themselves very dead, very, very quickly.

As ever, Xur will be around until 10am UK / 2am PT on Sunday, at which point he’ll hurtle off to – hopefully – check his inventory and make sure he actually brings something new next week.
