I realise this will heed calls of blasphemy, but IMHO the only thing holding this game back from success is the intense difficulty. Yes, some (a small minority of) gamers want to be treated brutally, and I for one do delight in the occasional two-dimensional variety. (Give me Contra or Ghosts 'n Goblins any day.) But 65 hours of horrific, no-sympathy "adventure"? I'd come for the graphics, but leave in frustration. These games are, aesthetically, some of the most stunning out there, but people like me are never going to play them because we're chicken. Whatever happened to difficulty settings?

The more I read these comments on here the more I realize the children who have had everything handed to them in games and the world there are in the gaming community now lol. The best games are ones with challenge that make you work for your victory cause it's far more satisfying. It's true in life too.

The more I read these comments on here the more I realize that it's not so much the game I don't like as its fans. The douche-chills I get from the fanbase have forever tainted these games in my eyes.

Your comment can apply to any group, any game, any idea, any sort of people. Generalizations only go so far, friend. Your comment is true though. I can say "I don't hate CoD, I just hate the fanbase" and it would be just as true as your comment. I agree that "TheGodEmperor" is a douche. With a name like that how can you not be. I don't like this game cause of it's difficulty, I like it because it is an original thought in a world of reboots and sequels. I don't remember the last good action-adventure game I played that wasn't Zelda.

Blasphemy. You want easy games? Take your pick. There's nothing wrong with someone deciding -not- to nerf their design aesthetics in an attempt to appeal to grandmothers, toddlers and people who suck at gaming. It's a breath of fresh air in a world full to the brim of health regeneration and rewind features. Don't like it? Tough, it's just not for you then.

I've never played Demon's Souls since I don't own a PS3 but the idea of a challenging game intrigued me. I'll definitely have to give this a look though, the monster designs look really cool.

I would give it a try but I feel like it's going to be too time consuming, maybe after this semester is over

Two things I learned from this review: 1. I want this game; 2. Do not play this game while drunk.
  • TheGodEmperor - October 3, 2011 10:54 p.m.

AH HAH! Something I should add to my challenge list! - Level 1 only - No deaths - Drunk!

im not sure how ive ended up wanting this game, I just know for some reason I do really bad...i think itll have to wait though, im just too apprehensive and I think with such a lengthy campaign and high difficulty if i buy it now i may well abandon it in a few weeks to play rage or batman

Great review Grimm, this looks great to be honest I'm torn between this and Skyrim. I'm leaning more towards this because of the difficulty and the amazing art style. I only have enough time for one new game as I've still to complete Deus Ex and Dead island. The joys of a full-time job :-(

Grimm you have just pushed me over the edge I was looking over to buy this game! great review.

"In a way, that’s really who Dark Souls is for – the gamer that remembers fondly how this hobby used to be, before games were multi-million dollar investments expected to sell to every male aged 18-35 on the planet. It takes you back to the era when games were made to challenge, and beating them was all the reward you needed, Achievement or Trophy be damned." GRIMM, how do you stare into the windows of my soul like that? Also, I instantly said YES to all 4 of those pictures. I can't wait to pick this up tonight.

Knees getting a bit sore there, buddy?
  • db1331 - October 4, 2011 11:50 a.m.

    Nope. Is it in yet?
  • JollyCrisp - October 4, 2011 6:16 a.m.

Ha. This game is not worthy of a 9. Waste of time and money.
  • BladedFalcon - October 4, 2011 7:46 a.m.

Obvious troll is Obvious. Anyway, I'm really happy a game like this still exists. I loved Demon's Souls, And I know I'm gonna love this one. Hard and challenging games like this should be more common, because as several of the comments here prove, way too many gamers nowadays are coddled, self entitled wussies that want everything handed to them easily. They are almost like robots in the sense they don't even want to be challenged, and that's sad, really sad. So thumbs up for every young gamer that decides to man up and give this a try. It won't be easy, but it's not a lie when they say it's very rewarding!

I'm going to pass on this one. I get frustrated way too easy, and I don't play videogames to get mad.
  • KolbitosFruitJuice - October 4, 2011 8:20 a.m.

I wish I had the time or money to play this.
