Counter-Strike 2: Gabe Newell flaps arms, giggles girlishly, makes most unconvincing denial ever

There are three ways to respond to an accusation. You can confirm it, you can deny it, or you can deny it so self-consciously that you might as well have confirmed it with a gold-framed certificated, lettered in diamond and delivered by day-glow dancing girls. Like when you were a teenager, and you used to speak VERY CLEARLY AND SLOWLY in an attempt to prove to your parents that you weren't rat-arsed on boozes.

Or when you're Gabe Newell, and you get in a right old flap following an unexpected question about Counter-Strike 2. At GDC. On video.

Watch this and tell me if it's the action of a man who is unquestionably not making a Counter-Strike game in secret at his company called Valve.

It's not, is it? I mean it's not just me. Good old Gabe is flapping around like a schoolgirl who's just been caught with a boy's phone number, isn't he? Someone should have followed up with "Episode Three" while he was off-guard.

Reckon this points towards Counter-Strike 2 in the near-ish future? And if so, what do you want from it, given the insane degree to which Valve has evolved Team Fortress with TF2?

After reading all that, i was expecting a really funny video. he sounded totally honest to me. just saying nah, nah. we got other work to do. i cant talk about it (so yea they might working on something, then again they might not be). he only laughed cos he can't believe someone would bring it up. and maybe im being a complete numpty today (been a long day) but wtf is dodo 2. ps gabe lose some weight. i dont want you to die early age because of your weight, we might never get decent games.

CS2 is bound to happen but as they've completely, at this point, made a nonsense of their "18 month" per HL2 episode BS I doubt we'll see it before HL3. With their current desire to move further into the console ,markets I would expect HL3 to be a launch title or the next gen of PS/Xbox as well as being a big PC deal and see similar incentive for Valve to do the same with CS2. If Crytek bother with Crysis on console you'd expect the ravenous HL fanbase on console these days to want BOTH these games too and it's just gone on way too long for a mere Ep3 by now, hasn't it? the only way Valvew save face over the GT5 dev cycle Ep 3 has had is to make it multi platform and a full HL game in and of itself and with the size of the shooter fanbase massive on console CS2 would be a natural to follow suit, no? The PC gamer in me doesn't like but the realist beside him thinks it's a pretty natural Valve move these days. While I STILL think L4D2 was a bit of a con on PC(and plain crap on 360 compared to what you got on PC-on fact BOTH L4D games are very lacking on console in quality but the lack of mods kills it)and could have been an expansion you should still imagine that Valve will, at least, provide both the games in question in their best format on PC with all the knobs, bells and whistles we expect. Whatever, I'm thinking we will get HL3 and CS2 no time before the next console generation lands.

Would prefer half life in all honesty, not saying i didnt have fun with counter strike, but i would prefer half life instead

Of course they are working on it. CS and CS:S are the top played games on Steam. If they can hit that magical note with CS2 that will make players of both games want to switch over, they're looking at a gold mine that shits diamonds.

After the joke that TF2 has become (coming from a TFC player from `00), I'll take HL3 over TF2. CS2 would be cool but I dunno what would be different from CS:Source.

Haha, that seems like a yes. Although I'm not sure if the markets a little too close to saturation with military shooters for Valve to make a dent in Battlefield and COD. I suppose that the PC gamers would go nuts for CS2 though. I would personally rather see more innovative titles along the lines of portal than another FPS.

Well it's not as bad as the title suggests but really I'd be more surprised if they didn't, Valve doesn't really do new IPs that aren't thanks to modders they hired...
