Cliff Bleszinski plans to start new studio

Cliff Bleszinski says it's not a matter of if he'll start a new studio, but rather "of when and with who." The former Epic Games design director spoke with G4's X-Play about the impact he wants to have in his post-Gears career.

"I don't just want the whole chainsaw gun to be my legacy," Bleszinski said. While he's flattered that the infamous Lancer commonly appears on best-guns-of-gaming lists (it sure made ours), he said he hopes something fresh and new will keep gamers from seeing him as a one-trick pony.

Blezsinski left Epic in October after 20 years with the company, and he remains one of the industry's most well-known game developers. He said that clout will help him in assembling a new studio, but you have to take care when "you have a certain amount of cult of personality. You can use it and leverage it to some extent, but you have to be careful not to believe your own crap."

The developer recently made a world tour of heavyweight publishers, including Electronic Arts and Ubisoft, though he's not at liberty to reveal any leads that may have arisen.

Great developer, and I love it when the great ones "don't buy into their own crap" and try to make a better name for themselves. I have faith in you, Cliffy.

Bring it on Cliffy B! I can't wait to see your name up and around again! :D

Here I was hoping this man was done with game development. Easily one of the worst kinds of people out there. Constantly crapped on PC Gamers with insults. Ruined Unreal Tournament 3 with all the dudebro crap taken from Gears of War. Can't seem to figure out why Gears of War is so popular.. just another mediocre third person shooter. Alas, that's console gamers for you. Alas, CliffyB just leave the industry. You definitely won't be missed with the PC Crowd. I'm sure whatever studio you have planned will be some craptastic Mobile Developer or some cheese attempt to developer for PC Again.

This is the reason why a lot of developers crap on PC gamers and leave the platform all together. PC gamers are some of the whiniest, entitled people in gaming. They think they can do whatever they want, pirate, hack, boycott etc and the second developers fight back with protection and DRM it's the end of the world, blah, blah. The only thing that is ruining PC gaming is their own community now, the only reason why it is still around is because it is easier for indies and smaller devs to push out games but the app store is fueling that need now sooo. Do you wonder why PC dominate devs are now going the way of the console? Less piracy, easier to develop for 2 systems than 1000's of possible PC specs just to then hear the endless crying as to why it won't work or doesn't take full advantage of your $$$$ rig. It won't be long before companies like Crytek and the handful of others that like to flex their tech muscle can make the same games for a console. Closed systems means universal specs and less piracy.

    stereotype much?

Considering the extent the original poster stereotyped console gamers, not really. The man has a point- as an agnostic gamer, who loves the games, not the platform, I do find that tied with Sony fans, though they have gotten better, PC gamers are the whiniest fucks on the internet. With that said, I am currently addicted to System Shock 2 and Cry of Fear which are both PC-only, so I do like the platform. I just can't stand the attitude that because you spent ~$800+ on a gaming platform, that means you're entitled to act like a dick towards other gamers. Maybe developers wouldn't be standoffish with the fan base if they learned some tact in voicing their opinion without slurs and generalizations.

I mean, you don't HAVE to be a generalizing dick. I game on PC, too, dude. Let's not enforce the stereotype that we're all dickheads.

    So that's why he left.

Hell yes. Him, Kojima and, I don't know, Suda 51 should all get together and work on something. I've no idea what it'd be, and I doubt any of the three would either, even after it's release, but it'd still be frigging awesome. Also, if I could come up with something as simple as 'It's a gun, but it's also a chainsaw' and for THAT to become such a huge cultural icon, I'm pretty sure I'd be ok with that being my legacy.
