1. Introduction
------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to the ULTIMATE Fight Night 2004 guide. Having trouble with your
game? Mad because you can't knock anyone down? Well, you've came to
the right place to learn all the secrets, hints, and tips to suceed in this
game. I would play online to show you that I know what I'm talking about,
but I can't because I'm behind a firewall at a school that doesn't allow you
to go on the net if you don't have a web browser. If anyone can fix this or
help me installing a web browser on my PS2, I would be very happy. Anyway,
if you are a newbie to the game you can rework your game and find out all the
information here to win. Need help on career mode? Then feel free to
browse at the Table of Contents and work your way down to the Career Mode
section. Need help on hitting, blocking, or getting up from a knockdown? Well,
look at the corresponding sections for help. Everything that you ever wanted
to know about Fight Night 2004 will be in this guide sooner or later. I love
feedback on my work, so if you guys can please drop me a line at:
fanbaseballdrew@aol.com I would glady appreciate it. Hopefully, I'll be able
to go online and play all the time with you guys if I get the right
connection. Until then, check back frequently, 1-4 times a week, for an
updated version of this guide. Thank you, and enjoy!
------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Update History
------------------------------------------------------------------
April 6, 2004 (version 0.1) - Fight Night 2004 just came out today for most
people. This is the preliminary version of this guide. Though it does have a
lot of information, especially taking you step by step through the Career mode,
there is still a lot I want to add to this guide. Check back daily for updates
and please give me as much feedback as you can about this guide. Enjoy!
------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Controls
------------------------------------------------------------------
The controls in Fight Night 2004 are very easy to get familiarized with after a
few games. Here I have listed all the controls in the game.
-------------
Menu Controls
-------------
Highlight Menu Item D-Button (up/down)
Cycle Choices/Move Sliders D-Button (left/right)
Select/Go to next screen X
Return to Previous Screen Triangle
-------------
In The Ring Controls
-------------
Footwork Around the Right Left Analog
Total Punch Control Right Analog
Signature Punch X Button
Illegal Punch Circle
Taunt Triangle
Taunt Square
L1 Block
R1 Lean/Body Punch/Signature Punch Modifer/Illegal Blow Meter
Total Punch Control:
Total punch control is an innovative system that gives you total control of
your fists in the ring. By using the analog sticks, you can intuitively mimic
the motion of a boxer's fist to throw any type of punch from any angle in
combination. Dissect your opponent's defense using combinations, feints, and
counterpunches all via the all-new Total Punch Control System.
How It Works:
The right analog stick controls your fists and is used to throw punches. In
combination with the R1 button, you can now use your fists to block incoming
punches.
------------------------------------------------------------------
|Punches: How: |
------------------------------------------------------------------
Straight Right/Right Jab Right Analog 45 Degrees to the Right
------------------------------------------------------------------
Right Hook Start out with the analog to the far
right. Then curl the analog up to a
90 degree angle.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Right Uppercut Start out with the analog to the far
bottom right. For example, a 45 degree
angle from the bottom right. Then
rotate the analog counter clockwise to
the 90 degree angle mark.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Straight Left/Left Jab Right Analog 45 Degrees to the Left
------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Hook Start out with the analog to the far
left. Then curl the analog up to a
90 degree angle.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Uppercut Start out with the analog to the far
bottom left. For example, a 45 degree
angle from the bottom left. Then
rotate the analog counter clockwise to
the 90 degree angle mark.
Movement Around The Ring:
The left analog stick controls your movement. Press and hold the L1 button to
plant your feet and take control of your upper-body movement with the left
analog stick. Bob, weave, and lean out of the way of punches or use upper body
movement to set up your own devasting attacks.
------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Game Modes
------------------------------------------------------------------
There are numerous game modes that you can play in Fight Night 2004. Here I
have listed all the modes of play that you can participate in.

Jump into the game with a fast match. Play by yourself or play with a friend.
Play Online
Think you got what it takes to be #1 on the net? Then go online and prove that
you can walk the walk.
Career Mode
Rise from the top in Career Mode and be the number one boxer in the world.
Create Boxer

------------------------------------------------------------------
5. The Basics
------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are all the basics of the game you should know before playing.
-------------
Inside The Ropes
-------------
Ladies and Gentlemen, it's fight night. Pick apart your opponent with surgical
precesion because swinging wildy won't win you any titles. Protect yourself at
all times as one solid punch can put you on the canvas.
-------------
Knockdown
-------------
When a fighter gets knocked down, the referee begins the 10 count. To pick
yourself up from the canvas you must clear your vision by aligning the referee
images into one clear image. The left analog stick and right analog stick each
control one image. A third image remains stationary in the middle of the
screen, as you move the left and right analog sticks to line up all the images
in the center.
EA Sports Tip: To get up from a knockdown, pick a single part of the referee
(like the logo on his shirt) and focus on it. This makes clearing your vision
a lot easier.
-------------
End Of Fight
-------------
If the fight goes the distance without a knockout, the judges tally the final
scores and the winner is announced. After seeing the judge's cards, the Punch
Stats screen then appears, displaying the final punch totals for the bout.
-------------
Penalties/Stoppages
-------------
Watch the low blows and other cheap shots. If caught, you'll get away with a
warning the first time and then penalized one point off your score in the round
for each following infraction that is caught by the ref. Rack up too many
penalties and he'll disqualify you.
-------------
Tips and Hints
-------------
To work your way up the ranks, you need to use your head. use these tips to
stay a step ahead of the competition.
-------------
Offense
-------------
-Counter punch your opponent after blocking or avoiding his punches. A counter
punch is often the most effective punch.
-Throw your punches wisely. A non-stop barrage of punches drains your energy
and makes you less powerful.
-If you feel you are losing when exchanging punches - back off! Regain your
energy and health then go at it again.
-Mix up your punches and you will land more of them. Alternate between head
and body shots, and left- and right-handed punches.
-Punches to the head do more immediate damage but body punches tire your
opponent out and slow him down in the long run. Use both to be successful.
-Try to corner your opponent from a knockdown, then pummel him as he falls to
the mat - that will make it tough for him to get up.
-------------
Defense
-------------
-Press and hold the R1 button and move the right analog stick to parry incoming
punches and create opportunities to counterpunch.
-Keep your guard up and protect yourself at all times. The best offense is a
good defense.
-A moving target is the hardest to hit. Use your footwork to avoid punches and
to set up your own chances to score.
-Blocking and avoiding your opponenet's unches will tire him out and make him
more vulnerable. If you lean and make your opponent's miss, you will more
easily tire him out, then come back!
-------------
Game Paused Menu
-------------
Press the START button during gameplay to access the Game Paused Menu. From
the Game Pause Menu, you can change your options, review punch stats, watch
replays, or throw in the towel.
------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Career Mode
------------------------------------------------------------------
Following this guide, you will be able to walk through career mode without any
problem. Here I will explain every aspect of the career mode and tell you
everything that you can do in career mode. Be patient because I am filling
this out while I am doing Career Mode myself. Also note, that this is exactly
what happened during my career. I used a created player and I am in the
Welterweight divison. Your career may be a BIT different if you don't do
exactly what I did. Nonetheless, this should help out a lot for your career!
Goodluck!
Go from chump to champ in Career Mode. Rise to the top by powering your way up
the rankings. You can choose from any available boxer or create one of your
own. After you select (or create) a fighter and add to his ratings, you've
ready to begin your fighting career. Your future bergins at the Career Central
screen.
-------------
Fighting in Career Mode
-------------
When you first begin your boxing career, your start out at the bottom fighting
against the lower-ranked opponents looking to make a name for themselves. Your
goal is to improve your fighter's ranking by racking up victories. After a few
wins, the venues get bigger and the purse size begins to increase. With a
little luck and a lot of skill, you'll get a shot at the title.
-------------
Fight Schedule
-------------
Manage your career by choosing and scheduling fights. Depending on your
win-loss record and ranking, you can choose from a variety of opponents. Pick
your opponent wisely by checking out potential match-ups because who you fight
affects your chance to win a title.
-------------
Training Camp
-------------
Once you schedule to fight, you have the opportunity to improve your ratings in
training camp. Pounding the heavy bag increases power and speed. Sparring
improves your stamina and agility ratings. Attacking the Combo Dummy increases
your chin and body ratings. Hitting the Target Mitts improves your heart and
cuts.
-------------
Trophy Case
-------------
Here's the place to view all your year-end awards and see the championship
belts you've won.
-------------
Fight Store
-------------
Use your earnings to buy new ring wear like trunks and gloves. Customize your
ring entrance by purchasing pyrotechnics and personal entrance music, as well
as choosing a ring girl to join your entourage. You can also add signature
punches, taunts, and tatoos to your boxer. Some of the items in the store must
be unlocked in Career mode before they are available for purchase.
------------------------------------------------------------------

12. EA SPORTS BIO
------------------------------------------------------------------
Like most of thew new EA Sports games, Fight Night 2004 comes with an EA Sports
Bio.
EA SPORTS BIO is a new feature desgined to reward you for playing EA SPORTS
titles. Your EA SPORTS Bio, a file shared between EA SPORTS games via your
memory card, is a summary that tracks key accomplishments and time spent
playing different titles in the EA SPORTS lineup. The first time you select EA
SPORTS BIO from the My NBA LIVE screen, with a a memory ccard in MEMORY CARD
slot 1, you are prompted to create an EA SPORTS Bio. You are also prompted
when you complete accomplishments or reach a new gamer level.
EA Sports Gamers Levels: When you first create your EA SPORTS Bio, you start
out as a Level 1 gamer. There are multiple ways that you can earn credit
toward a promotion to the next level.
Every EA SPORTS title that you add to your EA SPORTS resume gets your more
credit twoward the next gamer level. Play more products, earn a higher level
rating - it's as easy at that.
Game Time: And you thought you'd never get recognized or rewarded for all the
time you put in on EA SPORTS titles. Finally you get rewarded for all your
loyalty and devotion to EA SPORTS. Does it get any better than this? THe more
time you put in, the faster you rise to the next level.
Number Of Games Played: Every game you play and complete gives you credit
toward the next level. In addition, winning games give you additional bonus
points on the level you achieve.
Rewards: When you reach a new level, you may unlock a game-specific reward.
Some rewards are bigger than others; it all depends on the level you achieve.
A level increase potentially unlocks rewards for all EA SPORTS titles in your
Bio, regardless of which title the level was achieved while playing.
Accomplishments: In each EA SPORTS game, there are certain accomplishments that
you can achieve. These accomplishments vary by title. When you achieve an
accomplishment, a prompt appears asking if you want to save this accomplishment
to your EA SPORTS Bio.
Major Accomplishments: This lists shows the five highest-ranking
accomplishments.
Recent Accomplishments: This list shows the most recent accomplishments, sorted
by date.
Note: Fight Night 2004 only supports the EA SPORTS Bio in MEMORY CARD slot 1
and 1-A.

19. My Other Guides
------------------------------------------------------------------
Many people wonder what other guides I have made around the web. Well, all of
them can be found at GameFAQS (www.gamefaqs.com). Also, people wonder if I
make money off of these guides. I do it as a hobby, as I am majoring in
journalism and hope to do something similiar to this for a job. Anyway, onto
the list. Though the list is short, don't expect it to be that way in the near
future.
