Konami has officially announced Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate HD for Xbox 360 and PS3. The HD version of March 2013's 3DS game will hit Xbox Live and PlayStation Network on October 31, the publisher said today. Further details like pricing weren’t announced.
Mirror of Fate acts as a bridge between 2010’s Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and this winter’s sequel, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. An HD version was outed last week when Play Asia began carrying console listings for a yet-to-be-confirmed Castlevania Lords of Shadow Collection, which will supposedly pack in the original Lords of Shadow, its DLC, and Mirror of Fate HD.
Speaking to CVG earlier this year, Konami UK’s Dave Cox said Lords of Shadow studio MercurySteam would "absolutely" consider an HD Mirror of Fate release. "We created everything in high definition - all the textures, all the levels, high-poly models, everything - and we kind of shrunk it all down into the 3DS," he explained. "Then we lost bones from characters, you know, we dropped the resolution of the textures and everything to make it fit. At MercurySteam we have an HD version of the game sitting there in a computer somewhere."
We said in our 3DS Mirror of Fate review: "For all the risks Mirror of Fate takes in terms of story and aesthetic, its core gameplay feels mired in antiquated design that just doesn’t feel that relevant anymore. This castle may look elaborate and multilayered, but the foundations it rests on are shaky. What could’ve been an entirely new avenue for the franchise feels more like a dead end.”
