Konami has officially announced Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate HD for Xbox 360 and PS3. The HD version of March 2013's 3DS game will hit Xbox Live and PlayStation Network on October 31, the publisher said today. Further details like pricing weren’t announced.

Mirror of Fate acts as a bridge between 2010’s Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and this winter’s sequel, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. An HD version was outed last week when Play Asia began carrying console listings for a yet-to-be-confirmed Castlevania Lords of Shadow Collection, which will supposedly pack in the original Lords of Shadow, its DLC, and Mirror of Fate HD.

Speaking to CVG earlier this year, Konami UK’s Dave Cox said Lords of Shadow studio MercurySteam would "absolutely" consider an HD Mirror of Fate release. "We created everything in high definition - all the textures, all the levels, high-poly models, everything - and we kind of shrunk it all down into the 3DS," he explained. "Then we lost bones from characters, you know, we dropped the resolution of the textures and everything to make it fit. At MercurySteam we have an HD version of the game sitting there in a computer somewhere."

We said in our 3DS Mirror of Fate review: "For all the risks Mirror of Fate takes in terms of story and aesthetic, its core gameplay feels mired in antiquated design that just doesn’t feel that relevant anymore. This castle may look elaborate and multilayered, but the foundations it rests on are shaky. What could’ve been an entirely new avenue for the franchise feels more like a dead end.”

I just don't get it. Besides making more cash out of this game, this has been a lackluster entry in the franchise. The pacing is slow, is unchallenging, the combat lacks depth, the story might come into play in the seocnd one but in itself was inconsequential to it's own, let's see how it looks but I don't see the appeal. It tries to hard to be Castlevania but feels more like a classic Prince of Persia but more shallow.

Well, I haven't picked up Mirror of Fate yet, so I might pick it up in HD separately before LoS2 comes out... OR I might just wait it out, and heck, who knows, they may even pack in MoF with LoS2 in a special pre-order or something, and I'll kill two birds with one stone.

Well then, I guess porting handheld games into Console is a thing now

I'm really tempted to pick up this HD collection. I don't think I will though. I already have the fancy LoS CE and Mirror of Fate, so I'd really be getting it for a better looking filler game, and the DLCs that I already have from a friend's account anyway. I guess it depends how much it costs.

Meh, I'm pretty indifferent about this, it was to be expected. Hopefully it's not just a straight port and they use the development time given to fix a few of the major issues with the original game.
