Cards Against Humanity asked people for $5 on Black Friday & spent $71K on crap

Look, I know this is outside of the usual video game remit but holy shit I'm equal parts impressed and horrified here. While most stores and online retailers were slashing prices and trying to sell ALL the things, the creators of Cards Against Humanity simply asked people to give them five bucks, offering nothing in return.

1,199 people did, including one guy who donated repeatedly to the tune of one hundred dollars. In the end the scheme netted $71,145 which was split between the company and the resulting spending spree blogged.

People bought PlayStations, Wii Us, TVs, cars, expensive whisky and laser eye surgery. One even spent $3000 on a luxury gold vibrator and three hundred dollar lube. Just let that last one sink in for a minute.

Last year the company sold 30,000 boxes of actual bullshit to people who seemed largely surprised to find that's what they got when it turned up...

To be fair the Cards people do point out that they've donated around $4 million dollars to charity since to 2012, so you can't really blame them for spoiling themselves. Plus most did give some cash to charity. And remember, people gave them the cash despite being told they'd get nothing in return.
