BlizzCon 2007 eyed for Diablo 3 announcement

Eyes are turning to August for a second major announcement from Blizzard Entertainment in 2007, with speculation mounting that the developer will blow the lid off Diablo 3 at its BlizzCon 2007 event.

StarCraftTwo.com has posted a lengthy argument on why it believes the announcement on the sequel at the event is plausible. One of the key factors revolves around comments made by Blizzard CEO Paul Sams back in August 2006, who along with revealing at the time the developer had a major announcement planned for this year - StarCraft 2 - let slip that the studio in total had at least three unannounced games in production.

It's a no-brainer, of course, that we'll see Blizzard unveil a new venture in the Diablo universe. Itzik Ben Bassat, Blizzard's Vice President of Business Development, spoke last year about the passion the company has for the fantasy series, explaining, "As long as we're passionate about a certain franchise, we will not desert it, we will continue developing that. It's been a while since we released the last Diablo game and even more since the last StarCraft game."

But will a Diablo 3 reveal occur at BlizzCon 2007 in August? Well, maybe, and don't forget that Blizzard used its last BlizzCon event in 2005 to officially reveal theWorld of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade. However, we can only wait and see if a new Diablo game shows itself.
