BioWare's game revealed to be Command & Conquer Generals 2

Remember the screenshots and videos released teasing BioWare's new game? Rumors said that it was going to be the next iteration of EA's Command & Conquer Generals, and that it would be developed by Victory Games. In this case, those rumors were on the nose. The VGA trailer has been revealed, and while it doesn't really tell us anything new, it's still good to look at.

Well, we know that things will blow up, right?

Ah, we can't even pretend to be upset - Generals was one of the best RTS in years, and we're really looking forward to seeing what BioWare can do with the game. Maybe the story might actually be worth following this time! What do you think? Ready to wait until 2013 for a new C&C?

Not sure what the gripe is with SWTOR (considering it's not even out yet) and bashing ME2 (as well as yet-to-be-released ME3) is beyond harsh, but I'll give it to you on Day One DLC and DA2 (as well as the EA merger - but at least it wasn't Activision, right)? Still, not enough for me to scoff at all things BioWare moving forward, least of all a new C&C Generals. They've given us much, as I'm sure you would agree. How about let's see what they do with it before passing judgement?

The above was supposed to be my reply to MetroidPrimeRib's reply further down. Not sure what happeneded here...

"Mass Effect 3 features larger skill trees that offer a greater degree of freedom when it comes to choosing skills. Whereas Mass Effect 2 offered a choice of two evolved versions of a power upon reaching Rank 4, Mass Effect 3 grants the ability to evolve powers multiple times" So yeah, improving on the leveling system of ME1 without completely removing it this time around. Also, they're bringing back the xp gain for individual events, like killing enemies, hacking/deciphering things, just like in ME1.

and i'm not quite sure how that got posted up here

Just like how Dragon Age 2 would have better combat and deeper, more intricate plots? And Star Wars: The Old Republic will revolutionize MMO's?

I highly doubt this is Bioware-Proper. Bioware clearly state that they only create RPGS. They are most likely just over-seeing this project and maybe lending a hand.

With the Bioware name attached I lose much interest instantly....

This is actually Victory Games that was rebranded as Bioware Victory cause lolmarketing. In any case I expect good things from this

Kinda looks more like Battlefield Wars.

Modern military rts on frostbite looks like modern military shooter on frostbite? Huh... weird
  • GrandTheftAuto - December 11, 2011 1:46 a.m.

Wait... Generals 2 will be using Frostbite 2?
  • ThisIsMyFuckingThirdAccount - December 11, 2011 9:40 a.m.

And Halo Wars joke is lost on crowd.
  • talleyXIV - December 11, 2011 12:37 p.m.

Yeah, a Halo Wars reference might slip by because I forgot that game existed until you said that. Yeah, now that you say that yes it does kind of look like a Battlefield RTS.

I'd behappy to play a C&C game as long as they give it the development time it needs, and it looks like they are.

Why must they rape one of my favorite series into the ground? Can't wait for CnC with a dialogue wheel and ambiguous Gay Sex.
  • AxiamWolfe - December 10, 2011 8:48 p.m.

Seeing where the other C&C series went with RA3 (IMHO decent game) and C&C4 (IMHO WTFBBQ), things can't get any worse.
  • TheVoid - December 11, 2011 12:25 p.m.

"Why must they rape one of my favorite sequels into the ground?" Uhh....based on what, exactly? A 30 second reveal ad that gives us next to nothing to form any real opinion on? That's considered "raping into the ground" these days, really? Just because BioWare is the developer? Sure they are traditionally known for RPGs but they are also traditionally known for high-polished releases. How about giving this a chance before blowing it to pieces before it's even left the runway? Personally, I'm excited as hell. C&C Generals remains my favorite of the series (although I do need to give props to RA3 which brought back the "fun factor" in a big way, too bad C&C 4 fell flat on it's face) and I think the timing is right to revisit that aspect. Generals was always more "grounded" than the rest of the series (at least as grounded as C&C can get) while still being incredibly fun. Like all good things C&C, it didn't take itself too seriously, but at the same time it ditched alot of the sci-fi trappings that the rest of the series clings to (RA's time travel, the "core" series' tiberium). And the various strengths/weaknesses of the generals made for some really cool faction subsets that kept things interesting way past the usual "ok, so I've mastered all three factions - now what?", which was appreciably revisited in RA3's expansion. Of course you are welcome to blast this effort to pieces before any real information has hit the scene but I highly doubt we will be seeing dialogue wheels and gay sex. More than likely we will be knee-deep in blowing things up real good in 2013.

Replying to MetroidPrimeRib is like replying to a brick wall. Say all you want to it but will keep doing what it does. In his case, trolling on everything ever.

    But BioWare is shit now...
