Batman: Arkham City Collector's Edition features custom statue and Dark Knight Returns costume

You thought the replica Batarang shipped with Arkham Asylum was cool? Take a long, drooling look at all the fan service goodies promised for the sequel’s $99 collector version. Full breakdown and close-up images below…

What do we get for our extra $40 on October 18? The most obvious highlight of this package is the custom statue, designed by well-respected Japanese toy studio Kotobukiya to mirror Arkham City’s box art, right down to the stark black-and-white (with a dash of blood red) color scheme. And what’s this? A secret drawer for you to store all your precious valuables, safe in the knowledge that angry plastic Batman will allow no harm to befall them.

The real prize for comic book readers, however, is this alternate costume taken from what is often touted as the best Batman story ever told – Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns. Younger gamers may not appreciate playing as a retired, overweight, middle-aged version of Bruce Wayne, but for those of us who know the 1986 classic, this is fan service of a very high degree. Note that buying the collector’s edition only nabs you “early access” to this costume, implying that it will eventually be available to everyone through DLC

Those who purchase the Batman: Arkham City Collector’s Edition will also receive “early access” to an Iceberg Lounge Challenge Map, set in The Penguin’s famous hideout. If what I saw of the villain’s role at E3 is any indication, this challenge map will likely feature Batman facing off against dozens of thugs in a Fight Club-esque battle arena, giving players a chance to practice their double and triple takedowns.

Rounding out the Collector’s Edition are the usual art book, four collectible cards, a copy of the animated movie Gotham Knight and an album “featuring original music from hit artists.” That last item is particularly intriguing: Is this a soundtrack? If so, does that mean Arkham City features real songs and not just instrumental, incidental themes? Or is this more of an “inspired by” album similar to what Moby did with BioShock? We’ll know more soon – personally, I’m crossing my fingers for a remix of Batdance!

What do you think about Batman: Arkham City’s Collector Edition? Is this enough bang for your 99 bucks? Do you plan on pre-ordering? Tell us in the comments.

Has all the small details for this edition of the game:

That is the best alternate skin ever. Go read TDKR if you are complaining about him looking a little old and chubby. I guess if you need your vigilantes to also serve as your male stripper, you should pass on this.

The skin looks like my dad if he dressed up as batman... Still getting the collectors edition i missed out on Arkham asylum's collectors. EVERYTHING but the skin looks worth every penny

Looks great, but I'm not that much of a fan to buy the CE. BTW has everybody seen the CE and box-art of The Old Republic? Now this CE I'm gonna buy!

It's probably going to inlcude at least The Heavy's Short Change Hero that was featured in the cinematic trailer, and more than likely the song that was in the Catwoman trailer. Other than that, it's anyone's guess. If I only had the money...

The statue kicks ass and the CD intuiges me....
  • BattleReachRising - July 20, 2011 5:36 a.m.

    Fat Bats for the win.

As much as I'm a Batman fan and a fan of the game, I'm honestly quite ok with just having the game (and the DLC's). So I'll probably be saving the extrab bucks to download the DLC packs... or maybe just wait if this will become GOTY and get that instead so I'll have everything in 1 disc for a budget price...

In the Dark Knight Returns skin it looks like Bats has packed on a few pounds.
  • Bantha_Fodder - July 20, 2011 2:02 a.m.

I dunno... $100 is kinda steep when the main draw for me is the Statue... I think I might pass on this one and instead preorder this and Saints Row the Third.

When I use the Dark Knight Returns skin, does his voice change to Michael Ironside?
  • shadowreaper72 - July 20, 2011 1:29 a.m.

DUDE THIS IS FUCKING EPIC AND IM NOT EVEN A BIG FAN OF BATMAN! Ill will more than likely pick this edtion up.(if my wallet can handle the onslaught of the countless awesome games coming lol)
  • Plan10FromOuterSpace - July 20, 2011 1 a.m.

As amazing as all this looks for another £40 I doubt ill pick it up, were almost talking the price of another new game, or at the very least all the obligatory DLC covered...

Ugh my game budget is really tight, but I'm actually wanting this CE. I might have to hand over the extra money to get it though. Really loving the look of that statue.
  • TriforcePlayer - July 20, 2011 12:43 a.m.

Great move getting in the Dark Knight returns
  • bonepicker - July 20, 2011 12:25 a.m.

I love the Dark Knight returns but Im not quite digging the skin.
  • BigLandoz - July 20, 2011 12:21 a.m.

The statue is pretty swanky. I'd like to know the dimensions of it. And The Dark Knight Returns costume is a fantastic add-on. I'm strongly considering the collector's edition. October 18th cannot get here soon enough!
