Aliens: Infestation coming to DS, so you can kill xenomorphs in lovely 2D

Remember when we said the DS isn’t dead yet? It turns out in its near-death state it’s incubating a killer alien, meaning at some point the handheld was hit with a facehugger when we weren’t looking. That may mean the system will be dead soon, but not before a new xenomorph adventure explodes from its chest in the form of Aliens: Infestation.

Planned for a September 2011 release, Infestation is being developed by WayForward with some help from Gearbox, the team behind Aliens: Colonial Marines. WayForward is renowned for its skill in creating classic-style 2D games like A Boy and His Blob, Shantae, and the upcoming BloodRayne Betrayal. Now the dev is spreading the love to the Aliens franchise, with promises of iconic weapons and environments from the films. Sega described the game as, “an action-heavy side-scrolling exploration game,” buzz words that would easily fit for the Metroidvania genre, but that could just be wishful thinking.

By the way comic fans, the characters were designed by Chris Bachalo, a well-regarded artist known for his work on Spider-Man, Gen-X, and Vertigo’s Death miniseries among others. Here’s hoping that talented roster can create a game worthy of them.

DS was MADE for this type of game. No stylus and touch screen nonsense, just old school fun on a small screen

Wayforward makes fun games, so I'll be sure to check this one out, even though I don't know much about the franchise because I've never seen the movies.

I still love the weapon designs for the marines.

Oh, I remember this! there was a trailer for it leaked on youtube or something like two years ago, but it was just named "Aliens: Colonial Marines" which probably meant it was just gonna be the DS version of teh game originally. Also had a strangely catchy song about aliens Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHbjped9gM8

I approve of this game! It'll be nice to play something other than Disgaea, FFTA2, and Pokemon on my DS Lite.

I think my ds has another game to play.

Like Metalgatesolid, I also love anything to do with Aliens. But that doesn't change the fact I don't think this is going to be any good. It looks really generic, from the screenshots, with nothing 'Alien' to set it apart from any other Beat/Shoot-em-up, except the name and the monsters. I don't think they can build that sense of fear and intensity that the films have on the DS. Hell, they couldn't even manage to do it on the 360.

looks pretty awesome... I just hope it doesn't require constant use of the shoulder buttons, otherwise it'll be nearly unplayable on a DSi...

this looks like it will be great. Reminds me a bit of Alien 3 on the Genesis, which I loved back in the day.

Looks kinda cool, not really digging the cartoony feel just yet but I have a feeling it'll grow on me. Wayforward are great developers and their last licensed game (a fun beat-em-up based on Brave and the Bold) was fantastic so I'm expecting great things here
