Thinking that Spamalot would be a big old flop, John Cleese agreed to let Eric Idle pay him peanuts in royalties from the musical. So you can imagine he probably regretted that decision.
He won’t be making the same mistake twice – this time he’s writing the thing himself. He tells The Daily Telegraph that he’s been busy penning the story for a musical based on 1988 comedy classic A Fish Called Wanda with his daughter, Camilla. Apparently the pair is happy with what they’ve got so far, but are rubbish at lyrics and will get someone to write them. Here’s hoping it’s a success; but that it doesn’t lead to Cleese trying to make Fierce Creatures: The Rock Opera, eh?
