I find it funny that Ed Lomas mentioned Prey in 1997 as an up-and-coming game with great portal technology. Nine years later, the portals weren't that amazing.

OMG! The main image at the top of the magazine there's a naff drawing of some construction vehicles. That was me!!! It was a racing game where you can use the vehicles tools for stuff like dig the road up, etc.

Hey Veato, I'm the work experience guy who wrote this and fished out all those old mags. I put that image specifically because of your construction vehicle drawings, I loved your idea and those drawings nearly made me wet myself! I had this image of a little boy carefully using a ruler to draw the vehicles and trying really hard to make them accurate with their proper names next to them too. I also wondered if your Dad worked on construction yard or were you just into diggers 'n shit? By the way I'm pretty sure this game hasn't been done, (although as it's been pointed out my research into the other games isn't 100% accurate!) but I'm pretty sure there's still hope for a construction yard based racing game!

You should talk to Eric Bratcher about PSM's "Pitch the Pros" section. That was fun, and they actually brought in real developers to give Green Lights or Thumbs Down. (i.e. Ed Boon's "thumbs down" for "Presidential Fighting," and David Jaffe's "green light" for "Dodgeball Car Battle" (okay, I don't remember the titles.))

This really really made me feel old. Articles from 1997 being referenced in such a historic way?
  • veato - January 27, 2011 11:14 a.m.

@DigbyCaesar Can you link the original article? I'd love to see what I wrote lol. I think at the time (and I cant remember exactly what year it was) my older brother worked in road construction which is where the inspiration come from. And IIRC I did the drawing on a PC (DX2 66mhz ftw!) - probably using Paint on Windows 3.11 or at most Windows 95. haha.

I predict there will be a game called something like Final Fantasy XXXIII, possibly a RPG. You heard it here first ;)

I've got a great videogame idea, but I'm not going to tell you what it is because I'm going to turn it into an actual game myself, and I don't want anyone to steal this idea which I have had since I was 7. Oh, and have you guys done an article such as "Top 7... things pokemon could (and should) change and improve, but won't"?

Some good ideas but none of the were that similar to the actual games
