Rumour: John Boyega up for Star Wars: Episode VII lead

Star Wars: Episode VII has reportedly whittled down its list of leading man candidates to a clutch of young actors, including Attack The Block star, John Boyega.

According to Variety , Boyega is on J.J. Abrams’ radar, along with Ed Speleers, Jesse Plemons and theatre actors Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher.

Plot details remain frustratingly vague at this point, but the role in question is thought to be that of a Jedi apprentice. The force is strong with this one, etc. etc.

Michael Arndt’s original draft was thought to have positioned the offspring of Han and Leia at the forefront of the action, but those characters will now take supporting roles as per Lawrence Kasdan’s rewrite.

Directed by Abrams and starring Adam Driver as the film’s chief villain, Star Wars: Episode VII will open in the UK on 18 December 2015.
