God Of War director teases that we might see classic scenes in the new game

Most fans have reacted positively to God of War’s more grounded reboot, but one question it’s thrown up is whether we might be able to play classic scenes from the series as flashbacks, in picture perfect HD, as part of the new game.

Credit, then, to EPNdotTV, who’ve asked that exact question to creative director Cory Barlog, and got a mildly positive response. “Ooooh – that sounds interesting! Maybe something like that would happen,” says Barlog – and while the words, written down, look like he’s propping himself on the fence, there’s a look in his eyes which suggests the journalist might be on to something. Watch for yourself to see what I mean.

Barlog also discusses the endless comparisons between new God Of War and old The Last Of Us, and says that the team was indeed influenced by a past game – but it wasn’t Joel and Ellie’s Sony stablemate.

“The Last Of Us is an amazing game, and Naughty Dog is an unbelievably talented team,” he says. “To be compared to them is awesome. But to me, the influence is much more that transition from Resident Evil 3 to Resident Evil 4, and [the God Of War] audience being ready for more mature stories. Dramatically we're challenging people to dig a little deeper, not handing all the answers to them.”

For lots more God Of War, sink your eyes (not literally) into Leon’s extensive preview feature.

God Of War is a PS4 exclusive with no release date as yet.
