Keira Knightley and Christoph Waltz are set to star in David Cronenberg’s film adaptation of 2002 play The Talking Cure .
Fresh from his success in Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds , Waltz will reportedly play Sigmund Freud himself, while Knightley takes the role of one of his patients.
No word on how closely Cronenberg’s adap will follow the play (expect some weird body imagery, natch), but the stage version tells the story of the friendship between Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung during the birth of psychoanalysis.
So who’ll play Jung? Well, Ralph Fiennes tackled the role to great applause in the National Theatre’s production, so here’s hoping he’ll sign on for the film.
As for Waltz... Frankly, we would find a film about him watching paint dry entertaining after his glorious Basterds turn. Seeing him taking on a juicy role like Freud is more than a little exciting. Cracking bit of casting.
