Bernado Bertolucci was only 22 when he wrote and directed this semi-autobiographical tale, set in and around the Italian auteur’s hometown of Parma during 1962.

Its protagonist is Fabrizio (Francesco Barilli), a young man determined to rebel against his middle-class background.

He embraces Communism, stops seeing his fiancée and embarks on a fling with his unstable aunt (Adriana Asti).

Teeming with filmic allusions (particularly to the French New Wave), Revolution is vibrantly shot, scored and edited, yet permeated by a mood of disenchantment.
