The best Lego Mario Kart set just got a rare discount, and I'm sorely tempted

Give me your best "mamma-mia," because what I'd argue is the ultimate Lego Mario Kart set just raced its way to a record low price - and now my bank balance is in more danger than a first-place racer from a Blue Shell.

The Lego Mario & Standard Kart set (which is an 18+ display piece showing off the plumber on his longtime vehicle of choice) has dipped to £119.99 at Amazon, down from £149.99. It's never been available for less than that, and seeing as it's arguably one of the best Lego sets for Nintendo fans, I'd say that's worth shouting about.

This kit, which came out earlier in 2025, seems to have been going down very well with fans since launch. Indeed, 94% of its customer reviewers at Amazon are a full five stars, which is pretty good going - the majority of sets tend to enjoy between 80-90% so far as five-star reviews go.

Personally, I'm tempted to grab this one myself. I've already got the Mighty Bowser and Piranha Plant on my shelf (which I said was full of charm in my Lego Piranha Plant review), and this is the perfect addition to those for-display models. For starters, it's a similar - if not exactly the same - scale, so fits really nice with them as far as size goes. It's also similarly poseable, because you can position the arms or head however you like. This injects some personality into the model, which is only helped by those enormous, emotive eyes.

Finally, it's a surprisingly accurate take on the Nintendo mascot. Despite being made up of bricks and blocks, it captures Mario's signature look without feeling too unnaturally angular.

The only downside would be if you don't have much display space. This is far from the biggest model Lego makes, but it does still take up a sizeable amount of room. It's not going to hold up to being played with either, so bear that in mind if you're buying for kids.

For those who just want something to go on their shelf, though, it's perfect. It's the ultimate ode to a beloved franchise, and I'm struggling to fault it.
