Star Wars: Episode VII has begun filming

After weeks and months of rumours, speculation and announcements, Star Wars: Episode VII has finally begun filming.

Today sees cameras begin to roll on the project, with filming taking place in London, the first time J.J. Abrams has shot a movie outside of the US.

To commemorate the occasion, Bad Robot tweeted an image of the first film slate from the production, accompanied by the hashtag #dayone.

Call us pathetically over-excited if you will, but even the sight of Abrams' name in the traditional Star Wars lettering has got us drumming our fingers and humming the Imperial March.

Co-starring Harrison Ford, Adam Driver and John Boyega, Star Wars: Episode VII will open in the UK on 18 December 2015.
