Star Trek director JJ Abrams has confirmed that the new film will be about two hours long.
Finally managing to say something about the movie – though not much – Abrams told MTV that he’s specifically decided to keep it from becoming a Watchman-style epic.
The reason? It’s his personal movie-going choice. “I’m sick of these two hours and forty-five minute movies. Seriously, it’s like I don’t have enough time to stay two hours and forty-five minutes. I’m exhausted just saying that twice. I can’t stand it.” Yes, JJ Abrams has ADD.
Trailer Release
The other big recent news is that the trailer will be released next month, hopefully crammed full of footage of the USS Enterprise and her crew in action, though Abrams still refuses to confirm anything about what we’ll see.
But he has another expertise beyond secrecy: making Simon Pegg cry. “I showed Simon footage when we were at Comic-Con,” laughs Abrams. ”I showed him this little trailer thing and it was my favourite thing ever. He literally started weeping. It was ridiculous. He must have been plastered. Because he was looking at my iPhone crying.”
Which means two things. 1. Simon Pegg is a lucky git. 2. Simon Pegg is a big girl’s blouse. We’re just jealous, honest.
