Eternal suffering
Eternal Darkness and sticky ends go hand in hand, but the saddest fate is that of French messenger Anthony. Reading a poisoned scroll intended for Charlemagne, Anthony's body slowly rots as he attempts to warn his master of foul play afoot. Cursed never to die, but instead to decay for eternity, loyal Anthony is finally put out of his misery 611 years later by Franciscan monk Paul Luther. Grim stuff.
