Michelle Williams is taking a breather from hard-hitting indie dramas to star as Glinda the Good Witch in Sam Raimi’s Oz, The Great And Powerful .
The actress, who’s best known for her impactful turns in films like Brokeback Mountain and Blue Valentine , has bagged the role that Raimi was keen to give to Hilary Swank.
Still, an Oscar nominee instead of an Oscar winner isn’t bad going, and Williams is sure to bring much depth to a role that could easily become overtly cheesy in the wrong hands.
Also signed for Raimi’s Oz prequel are Mila Kunis as Theodora, the Wicked Witch of the West, James Franco as the wizard of Oz, and Rachel Weisz as Evanora, the Wicked Witch of the East.
Set before the events of The Wizard Of Oz , Raimi’ film follows a snake-oil salesman who finds himself in Oz, and teams up with Glinda to fight her two evil siblings.
