Imagine Midnight Run in China circa 221BC.
That’s the Cliff’s Notes take on this wuxia epic starring Jackie Chan (who also shoulders scripting duties) as an army deserter who captures an enemy general (Wang Leehom) and tries to bring him back alive to claim a reward.
As they bicker their way across China during the Warring States period, director Sheng Ding shows off Chan’s slapstick skills and stages exhilarating battles involving whips and horseback fighting.
It lacks the visual oomph of Hero, but sure knocks Chan’s recent Spy Next Door on its sorry arse.
