Guillermo del Toro may have enough on his plate to ensure Pacific Rim 2 is still some way off, but that hasn’t stopped the director making plans for a potential third film in the series…
Del Toro has been discussing what we can expect from the first sequel, and went on to explain to Collider that the aim is to lead into the third film in an eventual trilogy.
“Some of your favourite characters come back,” says del Toro, “some others don’t because we have decided that we’re going to shoot ambitiously and say ‘Let’s hope we have three movies.’”
“So some characters come in at the end of the second,” he continues, “hoping that it will ramp up on the third one.”
The director then confirmed that he hopes to begin production on the second film by late 2015, ahead of its official release date on 7 April 2017. Robots and monsters and sequels, oh my!
