One of our most-anticipated roguelikes is still on its way to 1.0, and it just dropped a massive update

Hyper Light Breaker, the most recent game from the team behind beloved indie Hyper Light Drifter, just revealed a major new update - and it's available right now.

As part of the Future Games Show at Gamescom, developer Heart Machine revealed Hyper Light Breaker's Double Down Update. The exclusive trailer, which features never-before-seen footage of the game, also revealed that the update is available right now - you don't even have to wait for the show to end to dive in.

Bringing players back into its color-drenched open world, Hyper Light Breaker's new trailer confirms an expansion of the Overgrowth - the world in which the game takes placs - and the arrival of a new Crown - terrifying boss encounters that will challenge even the most skilled players. Across the game, there's "more to play, more to master," which is great news for those of you hoping to keep your skills sharp in the run up to 1.0.

Right now of course, Hyper Light Breaker is still in early access, but Heart Machine is getting closer and closer to a full release, which it's currently expecting to offer up in 2026. Hyper Light Breaker hasn't had the easiest road through early access, but with reviews getting better all the time as it gets closer to launch, the new Double Down Update is a perfect opportunity to check it out.
