Assassin's Creed Invictus leak has "been heavily altered," probably using AI, Ubisoft says: "Nice try"
Rumors about the game's quality emerged over the weekend
Ubisoft has responded to and shot down a leaked screenshot of its Assassin's Creed multiplayer title known as Codename Invictus.
Over on Twitter, YouTuber xJ0nathan posted what seemed to be a screenshot of the Assassin's Creed multiplayer game, which caught the attention of the official Assassin's Creed account – clearly taking a liberal approach to leaks after everything from Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced was revealed ahead of time.
The account responds, "Nice try... This might have started as an image from our private test, but it's been heavily altered (most probably with AI). Not great to spread misinformation." It continues: "For those genuinely curious about the project: we'll share more when the time is right!"
Article continues belowThis post prompted xJ0nathan to release a separate image which he claims to be the real deal with no AI alteration, but other users have pointed out that the two images have inconsistencies between them that could debunk that version, too.
Of course, this is also indirect confirmation that there is some of the DNA of this Assassin's Creed multiplayer title within the screenshot, albeit heavily doctored. An interesting layer to this is Ubisoft saying "we'll share more when the time is right," as over the weekend it was reported that playtests went really poorly, causing some to speculate that the game could get canceled. Granted, this report started from the same poster behind the leaked image, before being later expanded upon by Insider Gaming. However, Ubisoft saying more is on the way also seemingly debunks the rumored cancellation.
