Plug and spray in frantic roguelike retro shooter Hyperwired, where your cable is your greatest weapon
Connecting your ship to power sockets grants huge boosts, but keeps you tethered in the middle of a bullet hell battlefield
Hyperwired is a pixel art 2D space shooter, with an interesting twist in its core mechanic. If you've seen the latest trailer shown during FGS Live From GDC (which followed the Future Games Show Spring Showcase) then you'll have noticed your ship has a giant plug trailing behind it, and this plays a key role in your roguelike loops through the galaxy.
You'll need to use that to connect your ship with power sockets that will recharge your weapons and systems, and while being plugged in grants you access to incredible firepower, you're also completely tethered to that spot and can only move within the range of your cable. This creates high-stakes risk versus reward situations, as enemies are always swarming and if you stay in one spot too long you can get overwhelmed.
Thankfully there's plenty of help available while you blast through procedurally generated sectors, as there are more than 250 bullet modifier combinations and over 40 upgrades available, from homing rockets and explosive bullets to scorching laser beams that can forge new paths through the scenery.
When the action starts to get too intense, you can always deploy your rechargeable slow-mo system to navigate incoming attack with a degree of ease, but it won't last for long so you'll need to be tactical in its deployment. Look out for stranded pilots to rescue and form an army to fight alongside you, as at the end of each galaxy there's a massive boss just waiting to end your run.
Hyperwired is set for release in Summer 2026 on PC via Steam, where you can wishlist it now, alongside PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch. Until then, follow Selecta Play on X and Instagram for updates on development.
