Soldier Boy and Stormfront take center stage in bloody first trailer for The Boys spin-off Vought Rising
The first trailer for Vought Rising is here
The next show in The Boys universe has now released its trailer, as we get our first look at Vought Rising. The upcoming prequel brings back Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy and Aya Cash as Clara Vought for a '50s set crime caper.
The first trailer, which you can watch above, looks suitably retro, harking back to period detective dramas as it introduces a young Soldier Boy alongside several new heroes. "I want to fight for the flag, I want to be a hero," Soldier Boy tells Clara Vought, who is seen here looking a bit different from when we last saw her as Stormfront in The Boys.
She's seemingly putting together a group of heroes to fight crime in New York City in the '50s, as we see some of them injected with what we're guessing is V-One. In the trailer, we see Bombsight (who was introduced in The Boys season 5) as well as newcomers Torpedo and Private Angel.
It's still very much in the tone of The Boys, though, as we see blood and guts galore. Soldier Boy can be seen at one point raining fire on a mysterious target, Private Angel gets splattered with blood, and someone explodes. The trailer ends with Soldier Boy and Clara speaking to one another – and thanks to The Boys season 5, we know their relationship was not just one of work colleagues…
There's no release date for Vought Rising yet, aside from 2027. However, we do have a new brief synopsis too, which reads: "One nation, under gods. Go back to where supes began in your first look at Vought Rising."
Tonally, it looks quite different from The Boys and I think this might be just what the franchise needs. The fifth and final season had a mixed reception so if Vought Rising is able to recapture some of the original show's magic in a new genre, sign me up.
