If you have ever wondered what Star Wars villain Maul's real last name is, then we have good news for you, as we may now be closer than ever to finding that out, thanks to Maul – Shadow Lord star Sam Witwer.
After a fan shared a drawing on Twitter of the former Sith Lord working at a hypothetical bar called 'Opress Brothers Bar', a conversation started around what Maul's surname is. Witwer joined the debate, saying, "Holy crap. Wait... Is Maul's last name Opress??? Maul Opress? If they're blood brothers, I don't see why not. Or is it Maul Talzin?"
We already knew that Darth Maul had a brother named Savage Opress. The figure was introduced in The Clone Wars series, but plays a bigger role in the new show as it explores Maul's place in the Galaxy Far, Far Away. Both Maul and Savage are sons of the powerful Force-witch and leader of the Nightsisters of Dathomir, Mother Talzin. However, it is not clear if the two share the same father.
Article continues belowMaul's dad remains unnamed in the franchise, but we know he was a Dathomirian and a member of the Nightbrothers clan. Savage's dad also remains unnamed, so it could well be the same person. In this case, Maul may well use his mother's last name, Talzin.
However, from Witwer's comments, we have a feeling we might find out a little more about Maul's past in the new animated show. Although Witwer previously played Maul in The Clone Wars, Shadow Lord executive producer Athena Yvette Portillo told GamesRadar+ that the new show "is a whole 'nother level of character depth" for Witwer's Maul, "where you get to go into his mental psyche."
We're only three episodes into Maul – Shadow Lord, but we're already learning so much about the underrated former Sith Lord, including about the Shadow Collective. The series has even introduced a brand new character, a Twi'lek Jedi Padawan named Devon Izara.
Maul – Shadow Lord continues to air weekly on Disney Plus. For exact timings, see our Maul – Shadow Lord release schedule. For more, check out our guide on how to watch The Clone Wars in order, and keep up with even more upcoming Star Wars movies and shows.
