Yesterday, we reported that not only has the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer been a big success, it's been so successful that it actually surpassed the GTA VI trailer for total views, making it the most-viewed trailer launch in history. But now the official figures are in, and the full scope of Brand New Day's trailer numbers is staggering.
Amassing a whopping 718.6 million views across all platforms (h/t Variety), the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer smashed GTA VI's all-time record of 475 million views in 24 hours. That also means it doubled Spider-Man: No Way Home's 24-hour total of 355.5 million views in 24 hours. Even more impressive, Brand New Day topped the previous movie record holder, Deadpool and Wolverine (365 million views), in just 8 hours.
I know what you're probably thinking: haven't those numbers been artificially inflated by those 22 two-second clips released over the preceding 24 hours? Seemingly not, with distributor Sony Pictures suggesting that views counted were purely for the full trailer. While it might not have been to our liking, the baffling rollout of the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer clearly worked.
Set four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Brand New Day is the last big-screen Marvel release ahead of this December's Avengers: Doomsday, and will see Peter Parker joined by Jon Bernthal's Punisher, Mark Ruffalo's Hulk and Stranger Things' Sadie Sink, as a still unknown character (though we have our theories).
Alongside the trailer, Sony released a new, official synopsis teasing "the most powerful threats" Peter Parker has ever faced, which could be the biggest hint yet that X-Men's Jean Grey will feature (alongside all those nifty mind-control moments). Seems Marvel Studios is up to some No Way Home hijinks again as well, as fans think the Brand New Day trailer has digitally removed spoilers.
