Mortal Kombat 2 digital release date announced, and we have an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at a new featurette
Exclusive: Ed Boon and the cast of Mortal Kombat 2 on the fighting franchise's lasting legacy
After a month in theaters, the Mortal Kombat 2 digital release date has been announced, and there's not long to wait till the beat-em-up sequel can be viewed from the comfort of your home stage. Beats the acid-filled Dead Pool, anyway.
Mortal Kombat 2 debuted to pretty impressive reviews for a video game sequel last month, hitting a solid 64% on Rotten Tomatoes. Our own 3* Mortal Kombat 2 review declared it a "bloody fun second round." Didn't catch it in theaters? Or simply keen for a rematch? Then you can pick it up digitally in North America from June 9, that's just one week from today. Fight!
If you're more of a physical media person, then there's a bit more of a wait, with the movie set to hit all the usual formats on July 28. The 4K and Blu-ray release will also contain five featurettes, but you can get a glimpse of one right now, as we have an exclusive clip from "A 'Boon' to Gamers Everywhere" below, featuring Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon and the cast of Mortal Kombat 2 discussing the legacy of the legendary games. Boon even confirms his favorite MK character; you're not supposed to have favorite children, Ed!
Mortal Kombat 2 made a not-too-shabby $128 million at the box office. Whether that's enough for a threequel remains to be seen, though we've known that screenwriter Jeremy Slater has been working on a third movie without an official greenlight since October 2025. Slater even confirmed that one major character 'death' in Mortal Kombat 2 was left ambiguous to set up a resurrection in the third movie. In conversation with GamesRadar+, Slater also revealed the one fighter he cut from the script for Mortal Kombat 2. Could they finally debut in a third film?
