Disney launching new Duck Tales animated series

Another classic eighties property is headed back to the small screen. Disney XD has today announced plans to reboot DuckTales as a brand new animated series. Produced by Disney Television Entertainment, the new version is expected to arrive in 2017.

Based on the comics by Carl Barks, the original series aired between 1987 and 1990. As yet there’s no confirmation on whether or not the reboot will be based on that same source material or spinoff into new territory.

However in a statement, Marc Buhaj - General Manager of Disney XD - said “Our new series will bring that same energy and adventurous spirit to a new generation.”

The new iteration will mark the return of tentpole characters Scrooge McDuck, his trio of mischievous nephews - Huey, Dewey and Louie - and their cautious father, Donald Duck. Joining them will be a host of other familiar faces including Duckworth, Gyro Gearloose, Launchpad McQuack, Flintheart Glomgold, Magica DeSpell & Poe, Ma Beagle and the Beagle Boys (Burger Beagle, Bouncer Beagle), Mrs. Beakley and Webbigail Vanderquack.

“DuckTales’ has a special place in Disney’s TV animation history,” Buhaj went on to say. “Through its storytelling and artistic showmanship, [it] set an enduring standard for animated entertainment that connects with both kids and adults.”
